NHL 2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

oh yeah I knew you were, I love the kid, even on a mediocre at best team last year, kid just plays hard and I have a soft spot for players who are highly regarded by their coaches and trusted to play them in all situations and he was doing that last year in the final 20 games or so as the Royals made a push for a playoff spot

First half of the year, he was getting acclimated with the speed of the WHL game, by the end of the year, he simply got "it"

I think another year of Junior would help him though, not sure turning pro yet is ideal but what do I know? Everyone yakking about McKenna for next year but I want Verhoeff of the Royals, kid is a future NHL stud on the back end

According to OHL Coaches, O'Brien tops Martone in 3 of 5 categories:

Smartest Player - O'Brien 1st, Martone 3rd
Best playmaker - O'Brien 2nd, Martone 3rd
Most dangerous in the goal area - Martone 3rd O'Brien NR
Best stickhandler - O'Brien 2nd - Martone 3rd
Best shootout shooter - Martone 1st - O'Brien NR

If the Bruins win the lottery I would see how desperate SJ would be to select Schaeffer.Bruins trade 1st OA + Poitras
for
SJ trade 2OA or 3OA (wherever they select) + Will Smith
Bruins Select Misa with the 2OA or Hagens 3OA
Really doubt SJ does this but I've heard/read Schaeffer is bigger version of Quinn Hughes. In other words he's a bonafide stud.

Bruins would be loaded down the middle for years to come. Or just select the bigger version of Quinn Hughes?!?
Your right doubt San Jose would do that!
Would love will smith thou, hell I'd offer are first for him today, but I doubt S.J does that either.

O´Brien seems like a player who will be picked late in the top 10 or just outside of it and will be a top 5 draft pick in re-drafts years later.

I read one report that said he might end up better then many players drafted in front of him but will likely take longer to get to the NHL then most of the guys taken ahead of him or near him.

I like him a lot based on reports only. The one thing that worries is that this long development curve and such a high pick but it seems his ceiling is a playmaker without much goal scoring touch. If we are going to make a top 10 pick on a player who needs more seasoning I’d just want to believe there was some more goal scoring potential in the future rather than a pure playmaker.

Not to be that guy but I'm kinda concerned about Misa's playoff performance, not sure we should be penciling him in at #2 just yet
Maybe this draft is pretty weak all together,

Would it make sense to move down and pick up assets and maybe a prospect that's ready now.

Seems to me a few if any are ready to play in the league next season. When you have so many different players that could go 1-7 why not.

This Misa kid stinking it up when it matters is dam straight an issue for me but honestly is he a slam dunk anyway if we ended up with #2?

I would take the D man before any of these forwards if I was picking.

Misa does not appear to be in that generational level of player, but he has a chance to be a very, very good player. I appreciate the fact that he has 50 more points than any other forward on the team. That's insane. Without seeing the game hard to judge him too harshly.

That said, I think due diligence will have to happen with whomever in evaluating the Bruins pick.

“It should be reiterated that misa scoring the way he has and then not being an impact nhl player would be a massive massive outlier. Since the lockout only John Tavares, Patrick Kane, Dylan strome, Mitch Marner, Connor mcdavid, Tavares again, Sam Gagner, McDavid again and Michael misa have scored 115 plus points in an ohl season before their draft and misa only trails Kane”. Stolen from a friend in another chat.

The more I dig into this top 20, it really feels like it's the top 3 of Schaefer, Hagens, Misa..

And then after that the order might come down to what a team values. I bet we see a pretty weird 1st round after the first 4-5 picks.

I'm legitimately terrified this management would fall in love with a guy like Radim Mrtka. Huge frame, moves surprisingly well, and RHD.. A hard position to fill and a position of need moving forward for the Bruins. I like the player, but him in the top 6 would be insanely rich for me.

  • NHL Draft: Fri, Jun 27, 2025 – Sat, Jun 28, 2025, at L.A. Live’s Peacock Theater
  • NHL Draft Lottery: TBA (May 5th or 6th)
The 2025 NHL Draft will take place this June, with the lottery expected to happen a month earlier. This year is also expected to mark the first incarnation of a decentralized draft. For decades, management groups from all 32 teams – plus scouting departments, media, and over 100 draft hopefuls – would jam themselves into whichever arena (or, in last year’s case, The Sphere in Vegas) – was hosting the event to take in the festivities.

n 2025, though, teams will have war rooms back in their respective hometowns. While other specifics are still being worked on, only a handful of players are expected to be invited to the in-person portion of the draft, which is expected to take place in Los Angeles.

Unlike the past two years, which had clear No. 1 favorites in 2023’s Connor Bedard and 2024’s Macklin Celebrini, the 2025 NHL Draft is still wide open. Some scouts love the Cale Makar-like capabilities of Matthew Schaefer, while others prefer the hockey IQ and the ability to generate offense of James Hagens. Some others might even prefer a power forward like Porter Martone or the goal-scoring prowess of Michael Misa – it’s a truly exciting race to the top.

Most scouts still have Schaefer or Hagens as the No. 1, but the fact that there isn’t a runaway this year should make following this class even more exciting.

We didn’t see any changes at the top last year, with all the lottery teams remaining in their draft spots.

As a result of Draft Lottery rule changes made effective in 2021, a team may only move up a maximum of 10 spots from their finishing position. That means only the bottom 11 teams have a shot at the No. 1 overall pick.

Seems like it may be a draft where any of the top 6 players may be available when the bruins pick. Who is the player most people want? I think i want hagens, but martone seems like a bruin type of player
