Prospect Info: Bruins Prospects XXV

with the pick at 25 last year why not take Letourneau, you have no one in the pipeline that has anything sniffing first line potential, you always take safe third line ceiling/floor players, so try to hit a home run with the bases loaded, don’t strike out looking.
I think you are creating a false choice. There were other guys that I think had higher potential than Letourneau and a better likelihood. But hey i could be wrong.

I said when the pick was up that the guy I'd take is Chernyshov. I think he has higher potential than Letourneau and a greater likelihood of both hitting his potential and even if he doesn't, still being an NHler.

Saturday Night wrap

Moncton takes a 2-0 lead with the 4-0 win
Johansson 1 shot +2

Dubuque beats Green Bay in OT 5-4
Kostadinski 1 shot
Morello 2 shots -3
Spicer 1 assist 2 shots +1
Zellers 2 goals 3 shots -2 First 🌟
He broke the Green Bay goal scoring record

Cornell lost in OT 3-2
Walsh 1 goal 6 shots +2 8 for 18 23:13

Umass lost 2-1
Locmelis 1 goal 3 shots +1 13 for 22 16:54

BC vs Denver 7pm tonight in Manchester, I'll be there

Should get some clarity regarding Myrenberg this week

Still think it's possible Walsh hits the portal

Also think Gasseau should be the only Bruins prospect that leaves school early

I’ll be the first to admit I don’t know anything about these prospects, it’s a part of the nhl I’ve never been up on.

Just my sense based on the way the player was described, you’d probably know better than I.

Me either. I do follow mildly. That’s why we come here. Looking at stats only is deceiving.

Not sure the Bruins even want Locmelis to turn pro yet, but I would give him another year. Only his 2nd year in NA and he will likely be UMass’ 1C with Mercuri turning pro.

As a UMass fan, I’m selfishly hoping Suniev also comes back and we get: Suniev-Locmelis-Jencko again. I also think it would be good for Locmelis’ long term development.

Why would it be good for his long term development to stay in umass instead of heading to providence and playing an 82 game season?

He is a very solid, smart player. But he isn’t a dominant player at NCAA. He still has a lot to prove at that level. He’d probably be OK in Prov, thanks to his IQ and strong overall game - but it would be great to see him take another step offensively.

Do we think that 10 more points at UMass next year is going to make him a decidedly different offensive player? I think he kind of is what he is and that is a 3rd/4th line center type. Strong defense, can chip in on offense. I don't think leaving him at UMass for another year will suddenly help him become a 2nd line C.

I doubt it. I’m sure having access to the Bruins training facilities, coaching staff, a large paycheque and a gruelling 82 game season can only help.

Now he also has to work on school. But that could be seen as a positive by the player. If he never pans out as an nhl player having a degree would be nice.

It's not about points. It's about time spent in offensive situations where players can be their most creative and try things. Once you are a professional there's going to be more of a demand to play it safe and make the simple play. You want players playing at a level until they prove they are too good for it because if they aren't, they are going to be lower on the depth chart at the next level.

Look at a guy like Cam Lund. Early 2nd rd pick. Played 3 years at NE with his stats going up every year. This year he was on the top line and one of the pot stirrers. If he was playing in the AHL for the Barracuda he'd be playing behind career fringe guys like Andrew Poturlaski. Instead he played 3 years, got signed last week and has 2 games in the NHL with a goal in his 2nd game.

Sunday's wrap

Green Bay slay the NTDP 6-2
Zellers 1 goal 2 assists 6 shots +1 First 🌟

Denver 3 BC 1
Gasseau 5 shots -2 11 for 20 18:20
Jellvik DNP
Letourneau 1 shot 2 for 4 6:42
I'd expect Gasseau to turn pro shortly

Spicer is in the portal

Locmelis days at UMass appear done

I don`t have the time nor patience to do this but I wonder what kind of season those picked in or around the time DL was picked are having? My guess is their stats likely much stronger but still won`t determine what their pro career might look like

I dunno, a pick that late in the draft is almost like a 2nd rounder anyways so I wasn`t disappointed with the pick, hell, hadn`t even heard of the kid before, I do hope the B`s don`t overthink it this draft, BPA , dead stop

It's tough to compare because most are playing in a junior level, but here you go:
Greentree 119 pts in 64 games
Vanacker 42 pts in 45 games
Gridin 79 pts in 56 games
Reilly 71 pts in 62 games

So those are hard to compare. I don't think Dean would be at the Greentree level and probably not the Gridin or Reilly level but Vanacker might be a realistic comp

There were other NCAA guys who went shortly before him. The B's didn't have the chance to draft any, but it can give context to what other guys are doing:

Boisvert- 32 pts in 37 games
Connelly- 13 pts in 23 games
Eiserman- 34 pts in 37 games
Hage- 34 pts in 33 games

Then you have the Stiga comp i mentioned earlier. Same team as Dean this year, taken 30 picks later and outproducing him. Yes he is more college ready than Dean, but it's definitely a disappointing 1st year.
