Prospect Info: Bruins Prospects XXV

Ok, make me a list of aaaaaaall the players that scored 3 assists in college, then went on to be prime contributors in the NHL. That’s “so what”.

Maybe he blows the roof off next season, but it’s not looking good.
There are plenty of who have blown the roof off in college or juniors that never made it in the NHL as well. I'll judge the pick once all is said and done. If Letourneau ends up being a bust, well, he ends up being a bust. It won't be the first time or the last time that happens. This kid's path has been a bit different than most, so yeah, an offensively weak freshman season is 'so what' for me. Clearly your mileage varies on that one.

Right now, he has as many goals as Zach Senyshyn did in his draft +1 year in the OHL.

Sorry, Dom, not following you here. Seny had 45 in the D+1 year at Soo, didn't he? Just started on my second cup of coffee this morning, so the wheels are turning a little slowly still

Dom is saying Greentree has the same number of goals Senyshyn did in his draft +1 year

So while Liam is winning the Draft +1 year, and will no doubt be rated higher in prospect rankings. That has only limited at most impact on what the players will be when they are age 23 and hopefully starting to really contribute at the NHL level.

I have no idea how well Greentree is doing on his skating, and the other elements of his game that needed improvement to become an NHL player, and we why he was available when he was

Ahh thanks, I was on Letourneau not Greentree. Makes sense to me now. I agree with that completely, btw.

I wasn’t necessarily going at you there - lots of comments just looking at his point totals. And many people act like Letourneau was going off the board (like, say, Lohrei) when he was ranked around there everywhere.

Up until this year people pined for Kaliyev. And I was told recently by many on here you can’t evaluate a draft pick for several years. But if Letourneau was putting up 75 points in the Q this year everyone would be fawning over him.
Letourneau's rankings vs Greentree;
Dobber Prospects - 55 to 18
Elite Prospects- 24 to 12
Sporting news 30 to 19
hockey writers Not in top 32 to 17
Hockey Prospect- Not in top 32 to 15
Smaht Scouting Not in top 100 (honorable mention) to 10
Pronman 28 to 23
Mackenzie in the 33-38 Range to 18
Sound of Hockey Consolidated Rankings - 46 to 16

Any idea why Greentree fell 8 to 16 spots? Even on McKenzie's list where he does a consensus of 10 NHL scouts, he fell. Did 10 out of 32 scouting departments overvalue him?

I'm not trying to play dumb here, I am genuinely curious because I had him ranked as the third player out of the OHL. Then Sennecke, Luchanko and Beaudoin (the guy I really wanted) went ahead of him.

I think biggest thing was the valuation of Cs over wings- Hage, Boisvert, Beaudoin, and Surin.

Then just some kind of surprise picks like Parascak and Surin and the late rise of Solberg

I think those factors along with skating concerns about Greentree had him drop.
You've seen a lot more of him than I have, but I gather there was also some concern about play away from the puck and maybe ultimate upside?

First 2 periods locmelis seems like a smart player but certainly not one of the most exciting players on his team. Looks like he plays mistake free hockey though. O hara seems like the most gifted on umass

Just read Dom’s helpful blog on new Bruins prospects Wanner, Zeller and Minten: Getting to Know the Bruins New Prospects

Looks like good potential with that group. The Bruins have had a chance to evaluate them since they were drafted, as opposed to not knowing how a newly drafted player will perform at higher levels.

Thanks Dom.

Dom, why no mention of Wanner's off ice issues? I think that character and behavior should be something that's part of whether or not you hire a player. There is a culture in hockey where people want to bury things having to do with off ice behavior for a variety of reasons, but I would counter that by saying that building a group in the room that respects each other, the fans, and the city they play for is incredibly important.

I can think of reasons why you would omit it, but I would request that you just tell us the whole truth. Because the hockey fans who read about this stuff and already have heard the reporting can tell immediately when that part is omitted. There were many outlets that reported on it. You could certainly do it, too.

As a fan, Wanner's on-ice performance hasn't been that spectacular, so it looks to me like this guy was just someone who needed a fresh start and a change of scenery.

Hit to the head by Kostadinski. Will be surprised if he is not suspended. Guys that big need to be more careful

When I have personal knowledge of something like this, I certainly do comment. However, in this case I do not. I'm not even sure which WHL code of conduct rule they broke (it is different from the OHL code of conduct) and all I know is the police have deemed it non criminal.

As you said, the news had been covered by multiple news outlets both nationally and locally. I'm sure that once the Bruins acquired him, fans started Googling his name and saw the news. But details are still unknown. Therefore, I stayed away from it and don't want to say something I could be liable for.

I was informed that I could be liable for making a simple comment like "this issue could hamper his ability to play in the NHL" therefore, I stayed away from it.

What did he do exactly? They never reported what he did as far as I can tell.
