Prospect Info: Bruins Prospects XXIV

He played. It was under 5 minutes, but you are correct, he played.

Saw it with my own 4 eyes
Riley Tufte 2.0. Drafted out of HS then straight to UMD. I think he at least had a decent freshman year. Why Letourneau was advised to make the jump to college hockey this year is beyond me. The kid could benefit from a year or two in the USHL or the O. Playing less than 5 minutes a night is not good for anyone’s development.

Tufte played in the USHL.

God forbid anyone expresses any concerns or questions about their first round pick going 17-0-2-2 in college in his d + 1 year while playing 4 minutes and almost being a scratch, let me go find my pom poms

Fair enough, Lou, but it gets tiring that year after year people here are ready to pounce on our prospects because they aren't doing X Y or Z up to some standard. At least let the kid get a couple of years at BC under his belt before we start writing him off (which comparing him to Riley Tufte certainly is).

If he was doing really well and people used that to project him and someone responded “it’s early, give it time, doesn’t mean he’s going to be anything”, that person would be framed a negative asshole.

He’s out of his depth, slower to adapt, not getting ice time and that’s stated as a concern? “It’s early, give it time, that doesn’t mean he’s not going to be anything.”

Of COURSE it doesn’t mean he’s can’t progress and of COURSE it doesn’t mean he’s just a bust. But does it (if we’re being honest with ourselves) kinda SUCK? It’s out of line to suggest that this is a disappointing start? To state that perhaps this wasn’t what we were hoping to see?

Again, he was called Riley Tufte 2.0. That's not really just expressing disappointment that his performance hasn't wowed many people.

You’re right. The Tufte 2.0 comment was unfair.

The rest of that post however, doesn’t strike me as being so.

Agreed. I haven't watched any BC games this year, so no idea how he looks, but I was hoping he'd prove some doubters wrong and have some decent numbers and icetime.

And I also feel you in that we always seem to have prospects that need excuses made for them. Only recently do we have a couple guys in Lysell and Poitras that are playing like you want to see your prospects play.

Can Marc be any less effective than half of the varsity roster?

Probably not, but at least those guys have shown they can be better than they are playing, and will get back. Who else do they waive that they can feel pretty sure doesn't get claimed (and who isn't a vet having a down stretch that you know will end sooner or later)?

I don't know. I have liked Marc from the beginning and they have jerked him around a bit, a baffling pattern per genuinely possible high end talent like Lysell, Merkulov and, to a lesser degree, Mathew.

What, exactly, are they waiting for?

This the perfect time, in a very imperfect season, to see what they have in these prospects, one way or another.
