Interesting prospect this Jack Ahcan
D St Cloud State
from Hockey News Future Watch as a top 4 positional college FA and #1 D with offense acumen
‘fifteen years ago, the 5’8” Ahcan wouldn’t even get a sniff at the NHL, but times have changed, and he’s a gamer. “Unique guy,” said one scout. “Built thick like a fire hydrant, competitive as hell and talented. He’s got a chance to be Brian Rafalski, which I know is high praise. He’s smaller but he can absolutely defend.’
and his scouting report has one player comp and it’s Torey Krug.
Jack Ahcan
no inside but here is what we know
1. No real negotiations with Krug
2. Salary Cap concerns
3. Expansion Defense protection concerns
4. They sign a guy off Playerfax as if they typed in all Krug’s attributes
5. Sweeney comments that if Kevan Miller can and wants to play the Bruins will extend him an offer
unless Torey takes a 1 year deal because of uncertainty due to Covid-19 and helps avoid expansion maybe they resign him
however my belief is Lauzon is the 3rd D they protect and don’t want to be painted into a corner by protecting Krug.
they have no one else like Lauzon on the left side and he offers a potential first pair PK, size, character, leadership, youth, and toughness.
listening to Providence coach Jay Leach on the Perfection podcast with Joe McDonald & Billy Jaffee, discuss Lauzon there is no way they are getting backed into a situation they expose him in expansion.
the second they sign Krug, who wouldn’t sign without a NMC unless he’s an idiot which he ain’t, Lauzon or any other D is there for the taking of Seattle wants / they could make a deal but Seattle has the power in a play like this
