Dumb question but how do you know a thread is live?

the way I know is if you go back to the leafs forum page, the gdt thread will say live in red text

Usually, you can check from the main page from the outside.

When in the thread usually the posts will automatically update/post while you are concurrently posting. Compared to a regular thread it will just say "there are more post after this one, would you like to view them?"
