Florida is the worst team in the league right now, no one is even close to that bad.

Proving to me that you haven`t watched the Flyers, Oilers nor Sabres play one minute of hockey this year.

They are hardly a power to be reckoned with but their record is like many teams. Usually they aren`t as good as their record may indicate, nor as bad as it does. They have been on the receiving end of a few blowouts however...

...Panthers, up to last night have played in 8 one goal games. In those 8 games, they took home only 6pts. Things could be different if that team received a save or two in those games.

On the main boards there are reports that the Panthers have fired the entire coaching staff??? Can I formally request Chia to immediately scoop up Craig Ramsay again please?

Do they have somewhere to use him, or would they have to create a spot for him? If Philly had any brain-trust they would start scoopin'!

there should be no further disciplinary action against Winchester. Unlike the scott situation, this was dealt with by the bruins. I consider this case closed against the player.

The disciplinary action should be against....Referees: Ghislain Hebert, Tom Kowal

The officials should be reprimanded, but throwing a couple of punches at Campbell's head (God love you, Soupy) does not constitute punishment. That was a textbook elbow to the head. Three games at least, though four would be better.

When you have an opportunity to snag an incredible hockey mind like Rammer, you do it. I don`t think he`s a great head coach, I think it`s a case of a guy being a sublime assistant and I think he`s most comfortable in that role.

Let`s face it...nobody other than a younger coach wanting the opportunity would ever accept that mess in Philly

and.....Philly has no brain trust:)

Went to the game (Balcony 316, Row 5). Team still looks like they are skating in cement, but you can see some signs of them starting to turn the corner, which is not terribly surprising, considering the short off-season. King Carl is the engine of his line and (currently) the hardest skater of the 12 forwards, though he also doesn't have the playoff wear-and-tear some of the other guys do. Iggy, similarly, has the most "jump" on his line, and is the best skater of the 3, and once some of his shots start going in, the line is going to be more deadly than it already is.

Merlot line had a lot of blown tires to start, but improved as the game went on.

Bergy is currently playing at 75%, at best, and again, considering what he went thru, you can see that he's no way close to 100%. Eriksson was very good defensively--good stick, good work along the boards. Marshy got lucky on his goal, but hey, you "go to the net, and good things happen." He's not as explosive/quick (yet) on his dekes/turns, and that's enabling defenders to stay with him (where he'd normally buy himself space as he'd shake off the defender). Once he gets his skating legs, he'll be fine.

Krug and Dougie are the best at moving the puck forward. Krug can get himself in trouble, sometimes, by holding on to it too long, but he's so good at knowing when to pinch (whether to keep the puck in or join the rush), that you can live with those mistakes for the offense he brings. Dougie's long outlet passes are fantastic, and he's terrific at making minor adjustments to his positioning to open himself a lane where he can get the shot on net. Both (Krug and Hamilton) are susceptible to being beaten wide by speed, as they don't read the play coming at them as well as the other 4 (yet). Chara is similar to Bergy in his struggles. Still good, but nowhere near his beast self.

While I was slightly disappointed that Timmy couldn't play (as that's why I got the tickets), it was nice to see him featured on the Jumbotron and have the opportunity to give him a big ovation. When they started showing a highlight clip, I was surprised by the first clip as I thought they were showing a Timmy save. Then clip after clip it was saves from the SC run and I thought "did they just plan to run with a clip for him and went ahead with it even though he's not there?" Finally, they showed him in the pressbox on the Jumbotron and the crowd gave him a huge ovation. It was great, and I'm glad I got to be there for it. :)

is there any other kind? are we going to make all elbowing a major now? he caught him with the elbow. it happens. should have been 2. it wasn't, so Soupy engages him. case closed.

Good post, good habits are hard to build, bad habits even more difficult to shed and this teams game last night, although far from dominant in any way, at least showed them, specifically in the 3rd, really executing some of those good habits

FLA's Jesse Winchester has 4:30 pm ET telephone disciplinary hearing with NHL for his hit on BOS's Chris Kelly.

Deserved.

Those guys in stripes that were calling last night's game should get a hearing too.

That hit was bad. Just the kind of hit the NHL keeps saying they are trying to rid the game of.

Glad to see this. These kinds of hits need to be stopped injury or no injury.

I think leaving his feet is going to make it hard to defend.

It was a deliberate head shot. That is exactly what the NHL wants to get out of the game. That's why he's having a disciplinary hearing.

winchester will get no more than 3 games. book it.

those are the hits that need to be out of the game but the league doesn't want to take a stand. it's going to take someone getting seriously injured or maybe someone dying to change how the league suspends guys.

Agreed, I understand the "1st time offender" stuff but in order to truly send a message, whether your a first time offender or not, hits to the head need to be punished, it`s like the league says to the players, "your first one is a freebie"

I could care less that Winchester is pretty much a straight laced player who doesn`t play on the edge, I get that this was clearly outside of his usual behaviour.

Hammering a Kaleta with a 10 gamer is easy and says nothing to the players, punishing a pretty clean player for doing essentially the same thing Kaleta did for the same time....THAT sends a message

It`ll never happen, this league hasn`t the crutons and that way of thinking is far too proactive for them

I may not have seen the plays properly, and didn't have the time to DVR plays last night, but did Lady Byng Brian Campbell throw 2 different leg checks out at Krejci last night?

Still a lot of work to do, but the third period was a step in the right direction. Toronto will be a better test Saturday.

(Geez, never thought I'd be saying that again).

Sorry, but this aint the 1970's anymore. The league has stated that it is illegal to INTENTIONALLY hit someone in the head be it a shoulder, an elbow, a knee, a stick or what have you.
If you hit someone and the initial point of contact is the head, you get (hopefully) suspended for it.
Why aim for the head at all? I mean, center mass/torso is a much larger target so why aim for the head in the first place? To me, if you go for a hit to someone's head, then you are intentionally trying to injure that player. there is no gray area in my books.

I'd like 5 games but as long as he gets at least 3 games I will be satisfied.

I knew right away who was down and when he didn't pop up like he usually does, I yelled out quite a few unladylike words.

No excuses for that kind of hit. There was no reason for Winchester to jump because they are the same size. I saw the play from behind so I had no idea he jumped into the hit until I saw the gif. The HDX only showed the elbow on replay.
