In the end that's all that matters when it comes to determining draft positioning. When you do just enough to take games into overtime that's not gonna be what is needed to get a top 3,4,5 pick. they play in a ton of 1 goal games.

I admit it is. I'm one of those suckers who watches teams like edmonton and NJ and Ottawa hoping they win

How is it any different than constantly checking the standings, worried that if the season ended today the Rangers would miss the playoffs?
