Are you related to him?

Nope. I am not related to Brooks Laich as far as I know. But I have been a Kings fan since the beginning. Dan Avey used to give me tickets - even before Bob Miller joined us.

I have family in Saskatchewan and I do follow the Saskatchewan boys with interest. A lot of great players have come from Saskatchewan, as mentioned above, including Gordie Howe (who was pretty good all through his thirties) and Ryan Getzlaff.

I think that Brooks Laich is a diamond in the rough for the Kings. He is only 34. He is coming off injury-plagued seasons, but he has demonstrated his skills at both ends of the ice at center and wing.
He has demonstrated courage, toughness and loyalty to his teammates. If he is healthy now, I think that he can do a lot for us. He is no bum. He is a 20 goal scorer who has been called "glue in the room".

If Tiger Williams can give us a 20 goal 49 point season after a stint in the AHL, Brooks Laich could give us so much more. If Brooksie can give us just two good seasons, he will give Blakie time to load up on young forwards and help us bridge the gap in our young player talent pool -- which is presently shallow.

Time will tell, but I think Brooks Laich can still play and give us scoring, toughness and character. GO LAICH GO!!!!:handclap:
GO LAICH GO!!!

Dunno, I'm kinda pulling for OG Kings Loktionov to make the opening night roster. Dude was hear for Cup 1.

I'm also more intrigued by Loktionov!
Has anyone watched him in camp and have any comments on how he has been doing?

Loktionov seemed like a nice guy and a good player when he was with the Kings in 2012,
but he did not get his name on the Stanley Cup because he did not play in half of the games.

Loktionov has never scored more than 8 goals in any NHL season - he had 8 goals and 4 assists for 12 points for the New Jersey Devils in 12-13. In 13-14, he played 48 games with New Jersey with 4 goals and 8 assists. He was traded, along with a pick to Carolina for Tuomo Ruutu, and for Carolina in 13-14,
in 20 games, he scored 3 goals and 7 assists, for a season total of 7 goals and 15 assists. The Hurricanes did not choose to make a qualifying offer to Loktionov at the end of the 13-14 season.

He is younger than Laich, but smaller (5'11" 187) compared to Laich (6' 2" 200). Laich definitely gets the nod at being able to go get pucks out of the corners and is stronger defensively
.

While I remember seeing Loktinonov play, my recollection is that he was fast, but had some trouble holding on to the puck. I do not know specifically why Sutter did not dress Loktionov for more games.

I wish Loktionov the best, and if he is better than enough of the Kings prospects, I hope that he makes the team, but as I see it, he simply does not measure up to Brooks Laich, all around, as a hockey player. Laich has scored a lot more, is bigger and has earned some of his penalty minutes sticking up for his teammates. I would prefer the tough, experienced skill player who can stand up for his mates when necessary. Plus his character is an intangible, but a major plus.

And besides, he is from SASKATCHEWAN!!!!! :thumbu: Brooks Laich will be a great addition to our Kings.

Laich survives first cut of PTO players

JON ROSEN REPORTED THAT THE KINGS HAVE CUT THREE OF THE PTO PLAYERS:

"the Los Angeles Kings trimmed their roster by three players, releasing Clayton Kirichenko (WHL-Medicine Hat), Evan Weinger (WHL-Portland) and Shane Walsh (ECHL-Cincinnati) from their professional tryouts."

Thanks for your effort and best of luck in their next stop to each.

Rosen further reported:

"Junior-based players and those on PTOs who remain on the training camp roster are goalies Tomas Sholl (PTO), Mattthew Villalta, defensemen Chris Lee (PTO), Kale Clague, forwards Brandon Prust (PTO), Andrei Loktionov (PTO), Brooks Laich (PTO), Shane Harper (PTO), Gabe Vilardi (injured), Jaret-Anderson Dolan, Austin Wagner (injured/20-year-old), Matt Luff (20-year-old), Matt Marcinew (PTO) and Sam Kurker (PTO)" are still with the team.

We are part way to having that big, talented, tough Saskatchewan boy with us for the '17-'18 run to the Stanley Cup!/SIZE]

Go Brooks Go:handclap::handclap::handclap:

If Laich makes the Kings they are in waaay more trouble than I thought. I hope Dahlin or Svechnikov are worth it if that's the case.

so you didn't think LA was in trouble when they signed Tom Gilbert, Devin Setoguchi, Teddy Purcell, Jeff Zatkoff, etc

but Brooks Laich is what made you realize they are in 'deep trouble'?

My knowledgable fellow Kings fans -- I do not dispute that the Kings are in some trouble, but I would posit that Brooks Laich is a potential part of the solution rather than a gauge of the need. Go Brooks Go!:handclap:

3/4 were coming from NHL and one was a reclamation project due to off-ice issues. Laich is a guy who was past his best before due a few years ago and moved down to AHL last year after clearing waivers, scoring 2goals in 81 games the year before.

And to be fair the Kings were in trouble when they added those guys, see the missed playoffs last year.

It's easy to see though that Laich will not come close to making the Kings roster.

This has to be his grandmother or something.

Anyone thinking he has a shot is fooling themselves. He didn't get to play in a game that had pretty much all rookies. To me that shows he s a long shot at best

Brooks Laich is an experienced professional at the NHL level. You are correct in your observation that the team on the ice against the Ducks in the Kings' jerseys was mostly rookies, who the coaching staff and management needed to see on the ice against NHL opposition.

The abilities, strength and courage in front of the net and in the corners of Brooks Laich are well known to Kings' coaches and management.

Our third and fourth line center slots are crying out for a tough, skilled guy like Brooks Laich, especially one like Brooks who can play on the wing as well.

To paraphrase Mark Twain, reports of the death of BROOKS LAICH are greatly exaggerated. Go Brooks Go!!:handclap::handclap::handclap:

But you have to wonder why Laich wasn't in the line up when all the other PTO's were. Loktinov, Lee, Harper, Prust all played. I don't have the answer, but why wouldn't they want to see him play if he was actually in contention for a spot.

Stop bringing facts into this!

Laich has generational character which should make him a lock for the first line. People don't understand its not talent that helps score. It's the character.

Especially the OP who's clearly related to Laich shows how much character and enthusiasm runs in their blood line.
