Russian play by play guy says “it might be better to win the bronze rather than lose in the final, you finish the tournament with a win”.
At the Lillehammer olympics .
Great story. I still remember from my childhood when our coach was telling us after losing in the semis - "Bronze means more than the Silver, boys - you will get the Silver after loosing and you will get the Bronze after winning your last last game in the tournament " In retrospect I think he was a good psychologist - you forget your losses but keep carrying your childhood victories through life.

He held onto it strong in warm-ups. I'll take my chances and go under.Over/under Askarov loses his stick

I mean that's sort of truth, less so in hockey but in the Olympics everyone knows 2nd and 4th places suck the most.Russian play by play guy says “it might be better to win the bronze rather than lose in the final, you finish the tournament with a win”.

Murica and all that but think how thrilled something like the Swiss would be to win the 3rd place. Whoever stays #4 is a good team, it's still an achievement.i never understood the concept of a bronze medal game. I feel like if i was a player, once i'm eliminated from Gold, i'd be like f*** this im out.
