Broken Bauer sticks

have you of you guys had problems with breaking Bauer sticks? In the october I broke my X60 (87 flex) about 2/3 way down the shaft. I bought the APX in December and I broke it in February the same way. I play in a pretty competitive league (ACHA DII) and am on the ice usually 4 times a week.

I also play center so my stick takes more of a beating due to faceoffs, but I don't know if it's worth going back to Bauer when I get a new stick. Do you think it's just unlucky or should I try switching over to another stick?

I have never broken a Bauer stick, but I've broken three Reeboks. Could be just bad luck but also might have to do with gamestyles.
 
Bauer sticks have been pretty durable for me, I've owned a number and have only broken one (a one95). The general reputation for Bauer sticks is that's they're pretty durable, especially in terms of their blades. I never really have problems with the blades on any of my sticks, but plenty of people complain about blade durability on Warrior, Easton, Rbk, etc. sticks, and you never really hear that with Bauer.

I have noticed that Bauer sticks don't have the kevlar wraps that some other sticks (like Easton) have. I'm not sure if this is to save weight, or for how the flex feels, or simply because they don't think it provides much of a durability advantage, but I could potentially see this making them more prone to breaking from slashes and whatnot. As a center you could give a kevlar wrapped Easton stick a try, like the S19 for example, which is a good stick and currently on sale all over the place due to the release of the RS.
 
I should also note that I am pass first center but when I shoot I'm a wrist shot/snap shot player. Aren't supremes more for defensemen due to the kickpoint?

Nope, you're just a sucker for good marketing :sarcasm:

The Supremes have a mid kick-point for more power loading with a longer release time.
 
All of my Bauer sticks broke because some guy cracked the blade by stepping on it. Other than that, they have always held up pretty good!

You need to always take into account the following:

- How you play
- Slap shots
- How other players play
- Flex rating
 
That's the info I got from Bauer a couple years ago when I bought my first Supreme One90. I'm not gonna bother to try and find it but blame them for my non backed up statement.

Edit: Definitely not proof but that's what the site said, also something I've noticed. I hear my friends breaking the vapor series more than the supreme. Sticking to my guns regardless of facts :laugh:
 
Where are they breaking? I'm guessing it's due to damage on draws and slashes.

If you don't mind the performance hit, you might want to check out Harrow 2-piece sticks. They are heavier but more durable than your average stick.
 
both broke in almost the exact same spot. about 2/3 the way down the shaft. one was from a slash and the apx broke from getting jammed on the net (broke pretty easily).

and I rarely take slapshots so that shouldnt have an effect.

My question is, do you think I should switch to Easton or would you say Bauer is the most durable?

A strong enough slash will break any stick and it sounds like your APX also broke on a freak accident, nothing to do with the stick.
 
Just from my own experience I've had incredible luck with Bauer. Right now, I still have my Bauer Vapor XXXX, one90, and one95. I've been using the XXXX all season and have played a ton of ice and roller with it. Now in saying that the next shot I take the thing will probably break in 3 places :cry:

Easton's scare me as I've had horrible luck with them and it might just be in my head, but I feel like I see a lot of them being broken when I play. I haven't used an easton 1 piece since this stick, which I must have broke at least 4 times within a month of using it.

i really dont know....all i know is warrior and bauer are the only 2 company's i will buy from....i have a bauer that is now 4 years old and have only broken 1 of my 5 warrior sticks...i have broken 2 reeboks and 2 eastons (both within a couple months of each other)...im not saying that 2 are better/more durable then the other, but if it was luck or coincidence i dont know but i have somewhat formed bias based on what i personally delt with...

bauer may not be for you

Can't say I blame you, the SL was notorious for its poor durability. Great performance though.
 
anybody know anything about the Warrior Widow? I had the Dolomite before I got my X60, and I liked it a lot.

Also, looking at the blade patterns I liked the Toews curve. Would that be comparably to the P88 for the Bauer line?

I've been using my custom Widow for about 3 weeks now and initial impressions : EXCELLENT puck feel, a bit more of a responsive and 'crisp' feel then the deadened wood-like feel on a One95. Weight and balance are non issues, love the shaft dimensions. Really have to adjust for slappers though, the ultra-low kickpoint will do that to you.

I've heard that some people have had some issues with the blade cracking on the heel, but these are the same people who have had repeated issues with other sticks so at the moment, nothing seems amiss with the Widow's durability. Nothing stands out either.

Warrior's old Toews curve in 2011 is the same as their old Draper and current Kopitar; Bauer's P92, Easton Hall and CCM Ovechkin/RNH

Bauer's current Toews is essentially a shorter P92 with a rounded square toe and slightly more toe curve on it.
 
I have had great luck with my bauer one95. I use a 110 flex and would never consider going to a weaker flex. I used to use a Sherwood RM7 85 flex but I snapped that in a few months.
Reebok has served me well so far, I have a RBK 7k (fourish years old) that has been good to me but the blade is cracking finally... sigh.
 
Your on the ice 4 nights a week, for 2 months. That is going to wear a stick out. That's a respectable amount of damage for a stick to take.
