Rabid Ranger
2 is better than one
One of the most underrated players in the league and would fetch a significant return if the Isles were idiotic enough to move him. He's be the ideal #2 on a large number of teams including several contenders.
In Colorado He can fit very well and it fix the Colorado top 9Nelson isn't the guy you trade when you're trying to compete.
Nelson is more valuable to NYI than what he would get on the market.
This post just put Clutterbuck back on the IR with another injury. So is Bailey, Beauvillier, Martin, Clutterbuck, Czikas...
Nelson's a stud and has gotten better at everything with each passing year (unlike all of the above who have declined mightily)
I don’t think the market is big for Nelson. And because of that, I don’t think he’s going to return a lot. Sellers need buyers.Boeser is nowhere near the player Nelson is. Hoglander doesnt have much value. I think you are really underrating Nelson. Besides Barzal he is the only isles forward that is good.
Realistically he wont be moved until the offseason if at all. At that point there will be a few teams looking for a good 2nd line center that only has a couple years of term attached.
This is fake news. There were zero reports of him being shopped. Nobody knows what you are talking about...yet the same player was immoveable in the off-season unless a sweeter was include.
yet somehow things have suddenly changed
think again.
What are the Islanders needs?
The only actual need the Islanders have is in the goal scoring category. Preferably someone (a winger) who’s around the age of Barzal and shoots the puck (on net) consistently. Defensively they’re a mess because it’s still plug and play without Pelech. If he were truly available, he’d be my primary target for the JETS. A trade to Winnipeg would only be a 2 hour drive to where he grew up. Make it happen Chevy!!!

Pulock if he hit the net would fit that for the PP but his accuracy makes Fulton Reed look like Ray Bourque during the ASG going 4/4. Tarasenko would be a good fit but not for the insanity of trade offers I’ve seen. Unless he’s coming with an extension/trade and sign, I’m not trading anything more then picks and mediocre prospects. High end prospects being traded just to watch him walk after the playoffs would be a disaster.Agreed. Kind of flying under the radar like Danault did. Nelson is one of the best 200' centers in the game. Doesn't get enough credit for what he does shift after shift.
I think the Islanders need two gems on wing. Two guys on the half walls that have good one timers and can snip. PP improvements and also players with size.... not more smaller types
Tarasenko could be a good fit.

The PP has been a major issue since the last season of Tavares/Doug Weight coaching. For some reason there’s no consistency eventhough the players haven’t honestly changed. They just need to start firing pucks and if the opposition gets wounded in the process, oh well. The league won’t stop games for injures anyways. Not sure what the Islanders do but adding guys on the side walls who can shoot the puck and score could change things. Improve the PP and the Islanders become a very dangerous team.

I’m not arguing that one bit. The PP has been a major issue for a few seasons and the additions haven’t helped change that. With the PP, they would have had a stronger shot to beat Tampa in the ECF the 2nd year.If your PP was more top 10 vs bottom 10, the Islanders would not be a bubble team and they would be in the playoffs.
Islanders are top 10 at 5/5 goals for and also top 10 in goals against at 5/5. A better PP and they are a very dangerous team to play against if the get in the playoffs.

Lou won’t get agressive unless the deal is right. Both Palmieri and JGP were top players among those available at the TDL each respective year and were signed over the summer. The only way I see him making a move is if he can get the incoming player to commit long term at the right price. Trading for a pure rental just won’t happen since the bottom 6 doesn’t need anymore of a logjam.I have a good friend who is an Islanders fan here on the east coast of Canada. We talked about this exact thing a few days ago. Prior to last season, Islanders were back/back in the final 4 right? They have rebounded this season but hard to say how aggressive they get at the deadline to address the flaws. Until then, they are in no mans land.

As for the current roster, there’s a lot of guys slumping right now and Pelech being out doesn’t help one bit. It looks like Barzal is back and Holmstrom too which means Johnston and Martin won’t be playing together.
I agree, but the question then becomes what does COL have of value that would entice NYI to move him?In Colorado He can fit very well and it fix the Colorado top 9
Landeskog Mackinnon Rantanen
Nichushkin Nelson Lehkonen
Rodrigues Newhook Compher
Islanders need a LD who can move the puck fast. Girard can be an option.I agree, but the question then becomes what does COL have of value that would entice NYI to move him?

Islanders will have Aatu Raty who can replace Nelson next year. A guy like Girard will made will put the right LD in the right chair. A win win trade
He is worth more than that to us. He stays. What do you think the Isles could get for Nelson if they are squarely out of the playoff picture come the deadline?
31 years old with 2 years left after this one at a modest 6m cap hit.
Are you retaining 50%? Teams don’t have the cap soace to take the additional year of his contract.
nothing really has changed since the off-season
