Player Discussion: Brock Nelson

Minnesota.
Please, no. I mean, I might be ok with it, if it were in that 5, maybe (very low) 6 mil range. But, believe it or not, I'd say at least a majority of Minnesota fans, I don't think want him. It's not that people dislike the player. It's just for what he's likely to command, we don't like the amount and term at the age he's at. Unfortunately, I think we've come to grips with the likelihood that this is Billy's plan. And he'll overspend on him, give too much term and probably a NMC. It's the Guerin way.

Don't mean to jump into your board here, but I was curious what the views here were when I saw the thread. Then figured I'd give a MN fan perspective.

I love Woody, but he was way too passive for me. We need a young breed of those who give and Take "No Quarter". No more passive BS. I want in your face types, islander dyed in the blue, take no freaking prisoner team types.....
Woody, although a great soldier, was too passive for me.
Good Luck Brother, I hope you do exceptionally well wherever you land my man!

I just don't see Brock coming back to the Island with the team in rebuild mode. Minnesota seems to be the no-brainer spot for him as a 3rd liner. The cap is jumping up the next three years, there will be cap space, and he will likely be cup-chasing. 3 years at 6M AAV seems reasonable if the cap will be $113 million by 2027-28.

Nashville (Barry) or Winnipeg (contender, location) would be the other logical spots. Nashville may be too far off though. Winnipeg would make a lot of sense though, his hometown is considerably closer to Winnipeg than Minneapolis.

Brock's an All-time Islander, I would always love to see him wear the blue and orange, but he rejected a contract extension at the deadline, I'm assuming he wants to go to a contender, or home.

I don’t think Brock is looking to be a 3rd liner. He’ll be someone’s 2C and there’s plenty of spots open across the league.

I just want to point out, that when compared to the Pajama Boy FA situation, note that Brock made is desire known to Lou, and Lou traded him for assets. Post trade, there is just love and respect coming from the Isles' fan base, as it should be. The Snake, however, stated he didn't want to be traded, wanted to stay, and then hung the Isles out to dry.

When, other fans call us out on our PJB hate, this comparison is all one needs to look at.

I bet he takes a nice discount to play at home, if that makes you feel any better about it ;)

I think Nelson is looking for the Wild more than Bill Guerin is looking for him. He would take a discount to end his career at home. I have nothing concrete to go on, just a vibe.

Based on how weak the Wild C depth will be when Guerin (almost certainly) trades Rossi, unless he uses Rossi to get a #1, Nelson will likely be a 2nd liner here. If I had to venture a guess, they'd like to move Ericksson Ek back to the 3rd line.

Kinda. Unfortunately, Guerin seems to have very little issue overpaying. I mean...Trenin. Nyquist. 😐

From everything we're hearing, the interest seems to be about mutual. I think most are just averse to it because of the age/term and how is perceived performance, looks like he had a down year.

Sounds like Toronto may go hard after him, so maybe it's a moot point.

Nelson is a very solid player. I think more than anything he performed poorly in Colorado because he spent his entire career on Long Island, the transition may have been a little jarring. I am sure if he played for the same team an entire year he would perform better.

Older, a little slower maybe, but still great at faceoffs, good size, great wrist shot, good leader... the Wild could do much worse.

Yeah, I don't mind the player. Just don't want ol' BIlly to back up the Brinks truck to his door like I think he's going to and I always get unsure about that wrong side of 30's drop off a cliff thing.

There’s actually 3 pieces of info on him that teams should be aware of: he struggled under Roy, was a non-factor at 4Nations, and much ado about nothing with the Lanche.

Common theme: all those situations were wider open systems and gameplay.
