I would probably do a first this season for Nelson if the devils had it and happened to be in a position to contend, but it went in the summer in the markstrom trade.

Have 3 second rounders for this season so I would expect they’ll move a couple of them at the deadline. Only prospects that would raise interest in a trade are Casey, Nemec and silayev who are all untouchable as promising blue liners.

Another name is Gritsyuk who is playing in the KHL and doing well with Demidov on SKA leading them in scoring. But he’s also a 23 and finishing his contract in the KHL this season and then will make his way to North America. He could be very valuable to the devils as a mostly finished product prospect who can be playing for a year on an entry level deal next season. So that’s also pretty valuable to the devils and hard to give up for a rental. Mostly just wishing for Nelson to be able to play along Hughes and bratt, but I don’t think it’s realistic unless Nelson is very unhappy and Lou wants to do him a solid.
Gritsyuk is the type of name that gets Lou excited. He does well with Russians and we're seeing some success with Max Tsyplakov who they brought over this year as a UFA.

FWIW, Palmieri has been better than Nelson ever since Roy got here. Like 25 goals in 49 games going back to last season. I'm not sure what his contract requests are going to be, but I think there's a world in which he may be worth more to us than another team, and may also take a discount to stick around. That's kind of where the Lou Special actually makes sense - wouldn't be shocked to see a Cizikas-esque deal for him

I would be more than happy to have palms back as well he’s looked great over the last year or so. The only sticking point for the devils is desperately needing someone on Hughes line that can take faceoffs for him and then jump over to the left wing during play. So just being a big body that can win draws takes priority over the actual output of the player.

May I Interest You In One Slighty Used Anders Lee?

In all seriousness, he's looked much better this season - maybe has finally bounced back from that knee injury. Has a 47.1% career FO%, slightly under Brock's 47.6% and definitely plays much bigger than Brock

Trotz will probably be in on Nelson if he becomes available. I don't think he is yet, as Trotz has said "there's not much out there" and he's actively looking.

Also Trotz loves old vets. Things will have to look better for us to make a trade, but if they do then I don't think Trotz bats an eye to move a 1st and good prospect for him.

Yeah, I definitely agree, but the Predators have to start performing. I know the preds have 3 firsts, but who would be a prospect you add to the deal? Cause that matters just as much as the first.

Honestly I wouldn’t hate bringing in Lee for that spot either. It doesn’t require a star, just a gritty guy who could take face offs and create space. Currently Palat is filling that spot but he makes 6 million for this season+2 more and is likely going to come in under 30 points this season unless he picks it up. Have to move him in any sort of big money deal or get someone else to take him on first.

Our pool is deep although not top heavy. Your guys is as good as mine, but at this point we have enough prospects to move somebody out. Trotz hasn't been around this group that long so its hard to know who he's willing to move or the guys he views as future core pieces. Like I mentioned and you mentioned, the caveat to all of this, is we have to look like a team that can be at least a playoff team worth investing in.
