Not saying the Isles should/would do this but I must have missed when Dobson's value skyrocketed.
Are we still valuing the guy based on draft expectations?
This.
Yeah from what I have been told by friend who watches the Isles (because of Trotz) said he hasn't been that great this season when playing higher up in the line. Also he has continued to struggle with consistency. He may one day become a top pairing defenseman but dudes barely even a top 4 defenceman right now.

I get it, which is why I don't know why the Isles would consider trading the kid, but value wise, he isn't near the other players mentioned.
Yeah, I agree, but seems like Vancouver fans are not happy with Boeser's inconsistency, but it's not like Dobson is a consistent guy yet. They are both still young. We have our own Boeser in Beauvillier. Can be so frustrating when you see ice cold stretches flanked with brilliance. Gonna be on the tips of everyone's tongue when they talk about trades.

with nelson out for 3 or so more weeks the isles could really use the utility options j.t miller could provide but your unlikely going to get hf board isles fans to agree on the price

what kind of cap space does Tampa have ? Re-aquiring Miller is something I can see them attempting to make happen and worrying about 2022-23 cap space at another time

no your clueless, you could then trade both players for multiple picks and prospects and be way further ahead. Sure your not wrong about the cap, the value is so over the top you take it and run and figure it out later.
you dont trade a potential top pairing defender for a mystery gift basket ...while hoping that Boeser doesnt get injured 'again' before you deal him, else thats a throw away asset, and although i like JT, i like Dobson (and his cap) much more.

Boeser has had some injuries sure, but how is he a rental?

He is 24 yrs old and still only RFA eligible after this year.

Saying a 24 yrs old "has never lived up to his hype" is also a bit premature

especially since he had 29 goals in 62 games his rookie year and 23 goals in 56 games last year to book end his career thus far.

Isles cant afford the qualifying offer, unless they clear a bunch of cap space. ...they only have Clutterbuck as a 'big ticket' salary but its only 3.5 and they will likely try to resign him, and have a few RFA's needing a raise, so, it would be difficult to fit Boeser.

The reality is that NYI should not be trading for any players who are under team control for less time right now, and *also* that they are comparitively better off on the wings than on defense. Generally speaking there is far too much uncertainty around NYI.

But what I've seen from NYI indicates to me that mobility on defense is their number one weakness, and that's only going to get worse by trading Dobson. It does not work. I find it highly unlikely that NYI make any significant trades until late January. And if their season is going down the tubes, the kinds of players on sale would be Bailey (an excellent playoff performer), and (potentially) Varlamov.

Oh, I don't think Clutterbuck is going to be back at all. The 4th line has been an utter liability, and the eye test says that it is due to Clutter losing a step, and Martin losing two steps. I believe both will be replaced one way or another. (Heck, they could be replaced by Panik and Johnston this year.)

i dont think either should be kept/retained and was shocked at the deal Martin got, but, people love their hard working 'intangibles' players

IMO Martin will be buried, and end up working for the org in some capacity. His contract will barely make a blip against the cap.

the Isles are living on LTIR ...they are over the cap otherwise, and Dobson is a cheap young potential Stud D.
I like J.T. but, the Isles already had the better J.T. and couldnt keep him, losing a lesser one in a year would be even more painful.
Boeser is an often injured rental, who has never lived up to his hype/potential.
...so, i think I'm not the clueless one here.
The only place its realistic is in a hockey pool.

Imagine basing your reasoning for declining a trade through losing a previous player through free agency who shared similar initials to the one you'd be aquiring...

Give me a couple examples of two first line players that got traded for a kid round first pick that although tracking well is relatively unproven. This is the typical HF overvaluation of prospects and it’s not defendable. “Potential” top pairing being key on this, I would like to mention both actual top line forwards are in the prime years of their career.

Based on what? Walstrom is a 1st line winger and 21 years old, Boeser os a more proven qst line winger but 24 years old and cost way more
I am not saying whalstrom is bad, but a 1st line winger? Is he even on your top line? Boeser has proven a bit more, at this point. And let’s be honest if we were talking about 20-30 goal pace Boeser no one would even bat an eye. Canucks need a top 4 RHD. If it’s not Dobson we will look elsewhere.
