Brisson confirms that EP40 dealt with injury which prevented him from Off-season Training.

Draisaitl has the size and strength to still be able to compete without speed, though. To be effective on the ice, you need to either be fast or big/strong. If you're both slow and physically weak, it won't matter how technical you are. This is why players get worse as they age. A 45 year old player is still going to have the knowledge and "IQ" but the fact their physical abilities are so far below the younger players makes them unable to compete.

I get that it’s not the same with bigger players like Draisaitl, who is also just better, but aging also affects your IQ. Your ability to quickly process things slows down as does your endurance which means you can get mentally fatigued quicker. You also lose reaction time, dexterity, hand-eye, etc. These are things that shouldn’t be affected for Pettersson, except maybe a lack of endurance from his offseason training affecting his mental game. There’s players who aren’t fast or physically imposing but get by on smarts and skills and Pettersson isn’t a stupid or unskilled player. Without his speed he isn’t going to be a 100 point player, but he shouldn’t be a 50 point player either.

He's soft. Physically and obviously mentally as well. If a minor injury is going to affect him for longer than a year he doesn't have what it takes to be a top line centre in the NHL. Everyone plays injured in the playoffs, playing through injury is a skill in and of itself and is a necessity if you want to win in the playoffs.

Hell, he's so mentally fragile he's whinging about our butter soft media. Imagine him playing during the gallagher and russell days.

There is alot of speculation here, its understandable. I THINK (speculating) he should be "healthy" scratched, like Miller was, to really get to what the problem is. This could be post concussion issues (depression, headaches(?)) , probably combined with other issues, like someone else wrote, he could also be playing thru it uninspiringly with the secret aim of beeing bought out, like his buddy OEL was, who then went on to win the Stanley Cup.. Pettersson is not stupid.

His PP point pace in the 3 prior years is about 28 per 82. His PP point pace this season is 18 point per 82. So he is scoring at roughly 64% of his previous pace. That's a pretty significant decline.
Right. But his goals + primary assists are even. I’m not sure what you can read into the secondary assists going down to basically nothing.
He lost JTM so the PP lost talent, but now the PP should run more through him than before so his point share should increase. Those should roughly offset.
I’m not sure about that - Pettersson has never been particularly productive on the PP outside of his goal scoring so it may just be that he’s not very good at PP playmaking.
But that's not really my point. I was just saying that playing on the PP doesn't require the speed burst and top end speed as much as 5 on 5, so he should be less affected there. Yet that isn't the case at all, and I'm not sure why that is.
I agree he should be less affected there if physical ailments are the cause of his ES decline, but I’m not sure we can say with confidence that his play has dropped off. He’s always been a bit awkward handling the puck on the PP, and his bread and butter has always been finding the soft spots to be setup for one timers, which he seems to be continuing to do.

lol at soft. Yeah he has a knee injury that makes him weak so he falls down a lot. Somehow playing through that while being one of the top shot blockers around the league is soft.
Counterpoint: he was weak which caused him to develop knee pain in the first place (sorry but I refuse to call patellar tendinitis an “injury”)

Are you being deliberately naive?

Team is in a playoff hunt, and a one-kneed Petey is as good offensively and better defensively than anyone they can slot in at centre

Even though it means his patty tendon is building up even more scar tissue and he will have to have surgery on the knee to remove the scar tissue after the season is over

Of course, given the scar tissue has been building up since almost a year ago, it is as likely as not that Petey will not regain his full speed even after surgery/rehab /restrengthening, all of which will take 6-12 months

That's what happens when someone keeps stressing an inflamed - and now scarred - tendon in one of the most grueling sports at the highest level
I think you made my point for me. If he needs surgery, why isn't he shutdown down, especially, as you say, because the injury is building up even more scar tissue.

The fact that he is good defensively doesn't move the needle for me. So is Puis Suter, so is Teddy Blueger. So is Raty for that matter.

you can call it whatever you want, scientifically, patellar tendinitis means the tendon is inflamed. The consequences of that inflammation in this case can be measured by the reduction in skating ability.
Everything you feel is objective, the data is the truth. Your objective feeling doesn’t change the actual truth.
It shouldn’t do this or whatever the f*** you feel has zero relevance to what is reality and what actually happened.

Not sure why my second paragraph didn't show on your device

But rest assured, I am not making your point for you

If only inflammation could be treated with something. :sarcasm:

I am not even one of the people who think the injury is still the main problem, but I mean cause it’s been talked to death, ask that same question about Mik. Over half a season, he continued to play.

Irony is that Mikheyev actually was producing while injured. If I recall correctly, it was after his surgery that his play really suffered.
I'm just having a hard time believing this all about the injury. Again, not saying everybody or even most believe that. I think those that do have a pretty weak argument.

The real irony is he was producing playing with Pettersson.
