Brisson confirms that EP40 dealt with injury which prevented him from Off-season Training.

Left is 2022-23 before injury, right is 2023-24 where he was healthy for half and injured for half.
I have no clue what you mean by the speed numbers drop by 10%, like which month? I assume the data shown in these charts are averaged out.

Would love to see the data on his metrics prior to injury (jan).

It's interesting, back in 2021-22 when he had his previous 'down year', his speed burst 20mph was still 86th percentile. His Top Speed data tanked that year to the 56th percentile instead.

Now his Top Speed data is respectable at 75th percentile (not his best though), but his speed burst data has tanked to the 56th percentile.

The opposite affect on skating has (likely) resulted in his worst results, but his worst results have coincided with poor skating numbers at either end:

The most ridiculous aspect about all this convo about EP40 is that essentially, all the folks who are basically calling him out for his under performance would like point out that his under performance is due to the following.

Lack of effort
Softness
Unprofessionalism
wilting under pressure
permanent decline
Lack of bonding with the twins

All of that is possible except for injury because obviously the club would never let any injured player play. Just need to ignore we literally told Hughes he could play in the 4 nations if he wanted despite everyone knowing he is injured, the fact we let Mik played injured despite knowing he had a torn ACl, or we rushed Demko back from an injury and then causing so much shit that he might be broken forever.

But no, there is no f***ing way his underperformance is due to injury but for any other reasons, yeah 100% plausible.
Petey was so injured that he is one of the few players not missing a game since the ASG in 2024**. So injured that he went ahead and played at the 4 Nations while Hughes is at home recovering. The team is so negligent with handling injuries that they have shut down Hughes, Boeser, Demko, Hronek, JTM, but not let Petey even have one game off. The team even told JTM to take 10 games off when he can play, but refuse to let Petey take any time off to nurse his critically injured knee? They must REALLY hate EP40, after signing him to a $96m contract they are clearly out to cripple him 4 months into this commitment. That clearly make sense to you.

Nobody here deny that Petey had an injury sometime last season, we don't know the severity but we do know he was hurt, but you are excusing EVERYTHING to injury.

Why isn't Petey moving his feet out there? Injury.
Why doesn't Petey shoot anymore? Injury.
Why doesn't he get open? Injury.
Why does he hesitate and double clutch on chances? Injury.
Why can he not mesh with anybody? Injury.
Why did Petey struggled since Feb 2024? Injury.
Why did Petey not train in the summer? Injury.
Why did Petey struggled this season? Injury and JTM.
Why did Petey continue to struggle after the JTM trade? Injury.
Why did Petey struggled at the 4 Nation? Injury.
Why did Petey not missed a single game in the past 365 days if he was injured, and played in a tournament where participation is voluntary instead of resting at home? Bad team doctors.

At what point does Petey wear some of this to you?

**Sorry I forgot he missed a couple games in December for an upper body injury. Which is odd since I was told the big bad team doctors don't believe Petey and his knee injury, but yet they believe his upper body injury in December and let him rest that instead, but not the knee because...why??

You are then one trying hard to find shit to butch about.
1.) talking about Petey not having a “good” personal relationship with the twins.
2) talking about Petey not directly responding to a reporter question.

Basically you have express your clear disapproval on how he is conducting himself. The clear contradiction is you also said you could clear less if he choose to show his own personality. Well guess what, him not doing what I guess is expected is him showing some type of personality.

I’ve been consistent at saying EP’s struggle is due to him playing through a knee injury. I just find it ridiculous that you guys tend to brush of the impact of that and choose to focus on stupid shit that obviously is not the root of the issue.
So on top of putting words in my mouth, now you are telling me what I am expressing. Just stop man.

and folks have found the new hotness to focus on such as not being super good friends with the twins.

I'm sure EP40's horrible attitude will be ignored equally. Surely the lone wolf will come out guns blazing next season. Can't wait to see it. Should be a fun experience.

The significant drop by percentage happened post ASG. (The implication of the JFresh post)

That 10% could have been variance. We don't know.
I don’t know what the average variance is season to season but 10% seems high on a stat that should be pretty consistent (unlike stats with an element of luck like goals or assists).

And certainly, when you take it in the greater context, it looks like the beginning of a sharp decline in skating performance, and it would seem bizarre, but very convenient, for posters whose argument is mostly dependent of NHL edge data to ignore this data point.

Thanks for sharing. Interesting, but not overly helpful without the correct season split. Petey slumped and sucked for the first half of the season that year, but found his game and was great for the latter half of the year. I suspect you’d see a disproportionate number of those bursts in the back half.

Do you have access to splits?

As long as he is not performing, all mannerism will be painted as horrible. If he is performing, unless he goes around and punches babies, all behavior will be seen as oh he’s back to his old self.

I rather see him return to form and double down on his arrogance and show that he can be good by being himself. None of this humble bull shit.
You think other great players are great because they are humble?
The kid's been a cocky little shit since he entered the league, despite having just one full elite season to his name. Save the Michael Jordan routine until you've proven yourself. He could use a little humility and accountability. It's worked for Gretzky, Orr, Crosby, Howe, Beliveau, Harvey, Bourque, etc. His attitude is a big part of why people are so hard on him.

People are really quick to forget that Petterson has had a history of disappearing for long periods of time prior to this inexcusable full calendar year disappointment.

He has had moments where all of Green, Bruce and Tocchet have lost patience with him and completely cut his ice time. Multiple times he has been a barely above replacement level player for half of seasons.

I see this as a player evaluation issue for P.A and Rutherford. A player with his consistency issues should not have gotten such a massive contract.

Yeah and he won the Calder, scored over 100 points and went above ppg in his first playoff series with that attitude until he got injured.

Turns out attitude doesn’t overcome physical injuries.

Pettersson made a mistake. He should have kept his mouth shut or answered in a neutral fashion.

To this point, he was saying the right things with the media and 'humbled himself' with management. Now, he's given ammo to the market while still struggling. Wrong move.

Not listening to the twins aligns with not listening to management. There's some arrogance there. Let's see if he changes that with him "humbling himself" now to this authority by being humbled via his play.
Yeah he’s clearly frustrated (which is positive he cares he’s not just like meh I get paid either way).

Some of this makes me wonder if he holds grudges against some in the media but either way definitely he’s making it worse by responding in this manner.

Statistically noticed something interesting last night. Ryan Getzlaf also had an absolutely brutal age 26 season. Eventually did bounce back but was interesting to see a fairly similar statistical profile.

Yes that's what I was looking at. I was asking if I'm reading it right, are we really playing him an extra 12 million this year, 10 next year, nothing the year after that, then 5 million the rest of his contract? Or am I missing something here?
Oh oki.

We are paying him a base salary of 2,5 and a signing bonus of 12, so 14,5mil this year.

So in relation to his cap hit we are paying him 3,9mil extra for the 2024-25 season.

I think “first playoff series” is a bit disingenuous without acknowledging it was the COVID/no audience playoffs.

Covid playoffs paled in comparison to regular playoffs in terms of level of play and aggression.
