That comment in the media was disgraceful.

My guy, you make $11.6 million per year to play a sport and live in arguably the most desirable city in the world. You already won. Just have a positive attitude for f***'s sake.

Maybe that's the problem - he already won. Got the bag without winning and now he doesn't give a f***.
complains athletes not having personality and then complains when athletes says what is on their mind. no wonder hockey is so bland

The problem is just that - why is that on your mind? Why are you blaming the media for your problems? You're playing like shit. Own it.

There is no other high paying career in the world that would allow you to make comments like that and keep your job.

The amount of shit people project onto Petey is f***ing ridiculous.

Fact is he’s playing through an injury that is bad enough that it’s taking his speed from 95th percentile down to below 50%.
He’s never complained about playing though that injury at any point in time and yet the media and some of the fans here has been projecting what they think at his lack of performance.

And now he says one thing or something gets reported and you folks are just lining up to say he’s immature. You know what’s immature? Making conclusion on other human beings when you haven’t even spoken to them once. Is he immature? I don’t f***ing know but I definitely know a 10secound or sound bite 100% won’t inform that.

Also people chiming at how bad it is he is not talking more with the twins. Dude wtf is wrong with you guys? Just because he's Swedish he needs to be BFF with ex Swedish players? As an immigrant, that shit tells me all I need to know about all of you. The assumption that because someone came from the same country as you = you guys must be f***ing best friends is like the most low key racist/xenophoic shit. That's not how mentorship and friendship f***ing works in the real world. People don't naturally get along with other people just because they are from the same country and speak the same language.
I was under the impression that the Sedins would be great mentors for Petey because of the twins' accomplishments, professionalism, play the same position, had experience transitioning from one country and the same league to the NHL like Petterson, how to handle the ups and downs of the NHL, how to train to gain strength and muscle, how to improve his skating and balance, and maybe a lesson on how to deal with the media and fanbase.

I didn't realize the only qualification you see in the Sedins is "Swedish". Obviously Petey has nothing to learn from the Sedins then.

What a misguided rant.

Wait…. So he didn’t just magically lose his 100 point selke talent cause he wasn’t trying hard enough and it was because of his injuries

They can both be true.

In layman’s terms, patellar tendinitis is most commonly caused by pushing one’s body beyond its capacity to handle a given repetitive movement/dynamic load.

So its possible EP was either

A. Lifting too heavy/training too hard in the gym in addition to his on-ice workouts and practice/competition schedule, such that he “overtrained” and developed this nagging knee pain

Or

B. Not lifting/training hard enough, such that his body was not physically prepared for the rigors of an NHL season, which then caused him to develop that nagging knee pain

There’s a reason patellar tendinitis is more commonly associated with 30-40+ y/o “weekend warriors” and not highly conditioned athletes in their physical primes.

*disclaimer: I am a huge fan of EP’s game and pull for the Canucks in general. I’m not a hater. I just have a hard time sitting on my hands while people repeat misinfo about something they aren’t necessarily familiar with.

As I’ve posted before, I think EP will learn from this and come back next year in great shape with a chip on his shoulder, ready to rejoin his place as one of the league’s premier 1C’s and one of the most exciting players in the game.

Saying media is annoying to deal with =! Blaming media.

whats the point of saying it though?

Star player with biggest contract in franchise history doing absolutely nothing game after game , after he made comments about how he wants to be in a winning franchise is going to get negative media attention.

Its just common sense.

Besides, doing media is part of your contractual obligations. Its literally in the contract that you need to do media days.

He needs to understand the only way to shut up the media is to play better. He can do something about it if it annoys him.

The reports are about him not having a relationship with the twins. If we say oh Brock doesn’t have a relationship with the twins, would anyone be like oh wow how could he not have a relationship with the twins. Hell insert any player that is not Swedish and say that <player name> has no relationship with the twins, nobody is going to be like oh wow how could that be.

Like I said the only reason why anyone here thinks this is an issue now is because there is an implicit bias about Petey swedish, he should naturally bond with his countryman.

Hell even without their mentorship, Petey was able to improve season over season until his injury. Seems like folks just wants to find a dumbass reason to grind.

He should be more professional but this media thing feels like they're making a mountain out of a mole hill. He had just lost in a game where he had a chance to score on a breakaway and missed. Clearly the guy was frustrated and answered poorly. Doesn't seem like a big deal.

How does it feel to win
How does it feel to lose the game
How do you feel about your game
How do you feel about the other team
What do you think you can do better
What is not working
Why is it not working
What does it feel like to play for your country

Hockey “journalists” asks the same shit every single f***ing day. Everyone knows he’s struggling, he said he knows it basically every time they talk to him.

Imagine you sucking at your job, you know it and you acknowledge it. Then people asks you that every single time and you don’t have answers for why you suck, or you do and you can’t say it because you don’t want to say it. On top of that you know the people asking you those questions are shitting on you saying you are soft, lack will, whiny. So are we actually surprise he shows some character about it?

I assume its because of lack of strenght to support his knee.

His offseason traning needs to be revamped. Ive slowly come to the conclusion that there are similar issues in the quality of physical training for hockey players in sweden (Pettersson, Klingbergs rehab to name the most glaring examples) as there have been in Finland for quite some time.

Yes yes I know. #excuses

Thats his job to answer those questions. Its also his job to perform. Just put your head down and work harder to perform. Its that simple. Take it on the chin.

Sure he has feelings. But hes getting paid 11.6 million dollars per year. Its hard to feel bad that he has everything in the world at his finger tips. The best medical care, the best nutritionists, sports psychologists, sleep doctors. He can use everything.

Give anyone that amount of money and they would hapily getting asked those questions by media every day.

Yeah and he answered the questions in the way he wanted so what you bitching about? You just want him to answer it in the way YOU want him to.

Dude is literally playing with an injury and somehow we are treating him as if he’s not dogging it.

If anything we should be even more concerned that it took until 4 nations before someone figured out he should have a knee brace.

What is a "relationship" though? Can it not be just strictly professional where the Sedins give him some tips on how to train in the offseason, and how to deal with the ups and downs? Those lessons would be hugely beneficial to Petey right now. I don't care what nationality the player is, I think EVERY Canucks prospects and youngsters would benefit having the Sedins mentor them. It's such a valuable and rare opportunity to be learning from 2 of the best players and people, to not take advantage of that is such a waste.

Nobody says Petey have to be BFF with the twins, nobody expects that. But to turn down such a golden opportunity only to face plant on 2 of the twins biggest strength is just dumb.
