No one, not even the person you are responding to, said he's been good or that they were satisfied with his play offensively. The person you are responding to only said that they were happy with Peteys defensive play. Don't have to strawman a "Petey has been great" to make a both sides argument here. Not bad isn't the same as good or satisfied.

The two actual sides seem to be split on why Pettersson has struggled, not whether he has. One side, the trade him even if we lose the trade side, believes that its a character flaw and it won't therefore improve or that he will never be consistently at a level that justifies his contract. The other side believes that it is better to keep him, either because the cause is fixable or not largely due to fixed character flaws or because we wouldn't be better from making such a move.

This news from the agent absolutely helps the latter side make their case that he's had an external cause limiting him. However, it remains curious why the team doesn't seem interested in defending him or seconding this position. It wouldn't be hard for them to say hey he dealt with something, couldn't go as hard coming in, we are working with him etc etc. Yet they deny he was even hurt. To me theres probably some disagreement with how EP40 handled this either by not communicating with the team or disagreeing with their plan or something. Theres no reason to not back him up especially with Miller no longer there to throw a hissy fit if they didn't pick his side.

I'm firmly on the keep Petey, he was the 21st highest contract by cap percent at time of signing when he signed this deal, and the cap is only going up and he's still young and insanely talented. The upside is something you don't get back in any trade. We already traded Miller for a lot less than his play is worth, why do it again? Ive also fully believed hes been hurt, he went from leading the league in points and dominating to disappearing so quickly last season and has been starkly slower since. But as I said, there's more to this than just that, since the team doesn't want to back him up for some reason here. Probably both sides (not including certain extreme posters) are correct to some degree.

That's the point I was making as well. The agent went on a local show and with Petey's struggles being the big topic was obviously asked about Petey and the agent would obviously reinforce what Petey has said from the start about needing to train around his knee injury. It's just highly unusual for both management and the HC to not defend Petey. Like you can still be critical and say that he didn't get to train like he usually did over the summer because of his knee injury and he's working towards getting back to the player we know he can. It's something he needs to continue to battle through etc.

I'm not sure about the victory lap. I think a lot of people forgot what Petey said about having to train around his injury and so are surprised that his agent came out and said the same thing.

With respect to "mismanagement", I was talking about the experience of other significant player injuries (i.e. Pearson, Mikheyev, Dickinson, terrible load on management on Demko), not specifically Petey. However, the outcomes for these players is some evidence that Petey's injury was managed poorly as well.

Like I said already, I don't have any insider knowledge here. But multiple players before Petey had seemingly very questionable outcomes regarding how their various injuries were handled. Those are the only pieces of evidence any of us knows about and that's what I'm looking at. Like, they literally didn't know Dickinson had a broken hand. Tanner Pearson was jerked all around. Mikheyev was playing on a destroyed knee. The former two have spoken publicly that they think they were not treated properly, Seems bad.

Probably not worth discussing further. I get where you are coming from, and I am not going to sit here an make an argument that the Canucks medical staff are great, or even not bad, but I am sure you also appreciate that no one here at HF is at all qualified, nor has the requisite insider information, to draw any meaningful conclusions regarding the Canucsk medical staff.

Like, even if they f***ed up all of those injuries (which we don't know to be true), that doesn't even mean they are a below average medical staff. Doctors/medical practitioners are not perfect. This isn't an exact science with a perfect understanding of all injuries and potential remedies. For all we know, they could be just average.

As an example, I think Lions Gate 's oncology department sucks. Because they've screwed up numerous medical diagnoses that have led to fatal results for more than one of my family member. But do I know they are worse than any other oncology department? Nope. And do I appreciate that oncologists are not perfect, and that it isn't an exact science, yup.

I am perhaps leaning a bit too much on personal experience, and I hope you never have to go through this type of thing, but if you or a loved one has a major health issue you realize how fallible medicine really is.

I highly doubt the issue is that Petey is lazy and simple doesn't want to be prepared. For the most part, it seems he comes out of the gates pretty hot early in the season.

I am perhaps a little less certain, but, like I said, found it surprising. As another poster noted, Petey has had some slow starts so this isn't the first time.

At the beginning you have pain during warmup and after the activity but during the activity it is often fine. But it can progress such that it is painful during the activity and at that point you can risk permanent injury to the tendon and extended recovery time.

To rehab you are avoiding deep squats, heavy weights, jumping etc. essentially all the exercises associated with explosiveness are off the table until pain goes away. You do other exercises but for a hockey player that may very well be thought as “resting it”.

Given it hasn’t happened yet no idea…..beware reading much into practice videos.

But in general, as someone who has recurrent patella tendonitis. Sone days it’s good and other days it’s not. And you can see the difference in my skating depending on the day. No idea if his is recurrent or not but it could be. We don’t know.

Is there a way for say the Canucks' orthopaedic surgeon to assess the injury and determine whether it's recurrent. Kind of important when it comes to whether or not to turn down the opportunity to trade him.

The reason it is brought up is because the handful of irrational conspiracy theorist posters keep insisting that he does not care or lacks compete or effort.

Allegedly? We saw it in person when he publicly berated what’s his face when he didn’t head to the bench for the extra attacker.

I think Miller probably had two sides to him. The overly passionate on-ice player who would often go to far in criticizing his teammates when he himself was often prone to poor play. And the off-ice guy who by all accounts was the type of guy to organize events and generally be someone that most guys liked being around. I think far too often the first guy reared his ugly head and it got to be too much for the team to accept.

I was stopping short of screaming it. I don't know, we chanted for one GM to leave, got our wish...flew a banner for another, got our wish...and things just get more complicated.

Like, I called my shot. We have some passionate, passionate fans. I love that about us and playoffs roll in and it makes me remember why I fell in love with hockey and sport in the first place. I do think this generation, group, whatever, we as fans of this team have seen enough heartbreak to appreciate the journey as much as the destination. I think this group of fans, seeing the support for the team, can and will see a Stanley Cup in Stanley Park. There isn't a bad singular person I don't like, I can talk most of us 1 on 1, but we as a group hivemind are useless idiots that let our anxieties become our realities.

My very first hockey game I dragged my dad (god love him, he's more an outdoors hick than a sport guy) to, I had tears coming from me. It was just beautiful to me we could all come together from whatever god-forsaken hole we were forced into in the 9-5 and cheer together and find happiness, frustration, sadness, together as a village watches a hockey rink. The players were gladiators, these fearless heroes defending what we stood for. Now, I just see them for what they are - human.

These are kids we place the weight of our communal needs upon. I don't think every kid can handle that. I know I wouldn't have been capable of that, and when I was 9 and saw my first game, Joe Sakic was my f***ing idol for years forward. That's the power of sport. It brings us together and unites the disenfranchised, should we want that.
