He's only played 11 games. Had 80 points in 80 games last year in a very defensive isles system. There's something seriously wrong with EP, he's been regressing steadily since his 100 point season. Doesn't look like the same player anymore.
So I'm not the smartest guy in the room. Why exactly would the Islanders trade for a guy in steady regression who isn't the same player at the asking price of 2 young assets plus a top pick again?

Barzal is on pace for 13 pts and makes 9 mil.
On pace is such a silly measuring concept

For example. IF I get the wife to agree to, you know.....on the first of the month, I'm on pace for 31 scores that month. We all know full well that the one tally is likely to be the ONLY one so my "on pace" is just a nonsensical hoax perpetrated for wishful thinking

Let's live in the what IS and not the what IF

I'd be down for a shake up with ep40 and barzal as main pieces .

you'd need to offset the money somehow though , maybe Hoglander / Pageau or Soucy/Pelech

your dreaming if you think Isles are adding Dobson to the mix .

I don't think Soucy is going anywhere. He's got trade protection as well. I'm also not sure that with Pelech's general trend of decline, that it would make a lot of sense. Pageau isn't a luxury the Canucks can afford either, with another year left on his deal.

But i do think something along those lines could work. Hoglander could certainly be on the table. I'd think the Canucks would entertain Pulock over Pelech.

There's a chance they'd even look at Mayfield in some sort of configuration of the deal i'd imagine. Disappointing since signing that long deal, but he sorta fits the mold of what this coaching staff seems to like. Would probably have to send Desharnais back to make it work, and then the deal gets even bigger trying to balance cap and value.

Romanov is the guy they'd probably really covet...but i doubt that would be on the table from the Isles end. Especially since he seems to work well with Dobson and will probably help offset the cost of that pairing long-term because he's not going to command the big bucks with lower production.

If the rumblings end up having some basis and they are going to move Pettersson though...the idea of getting Barzal back as the centerpiece of a deal makes the Isles one of the few destinations that makes a little bit of potential sense to me.

If Brazal wants to be traded or management wants to move him. There will be plenty of suitors lined up to offer packages. So, I'm not worried about it either way.

beacuse they are getting the best player in the deal who happens to only be 26 yrs old and signed for 8 years. Compared to Barzal who is only signed for 3 more years and Dobson who is RFA.

Not to mention the Isles get a top prospect as well in the trade with Mynio.

Compare it to the Eichel trade. and dont forget Eichel had way lessss value than Pettersson because of Eichel's neck injury.

Alex Tuch, Peyton Krebs (17thOA, top prospect at the time) 1st round pick.

Elias Pettersson would easily beat out that return.

When you don't fully pay attention and that devalues everything you say after that point.
