Bridgeport Islanders Discussion 2024-25: Where's the Farm?

i don't see much of them, but i wonder... do you think the lack of an experienced/quality goalie is largely the reason for the ugh season? i have been on teams in which the goalie was not good enough, and it was like a plague, mentally. i know they are not considered high-powered, but we are supposed to be powered by strength, courage, work ethic. you know... character guys. that is LL's M.O., am i right?

Edit: i just checked and Tikkanen was in net for yesterday's 7-5 win over Springfield. was ugly, but good for him to get a win. AAAANNNNNDDDDDD.... i noticed that the backup was Bullion. any word on Skarek? Bullion signed a PTO on the 28th.

Was it Beef or Chicken as the backup?

6-3 L but prospects on the score sheet

Bolduc assist
Jeffries PPG assisted by Odelius
Dufour goal

Yet another loss, lol. What a disaster up there

Odelius primary assist on the lone power play goal. Anyone know if he is the QB? Defenseman take longer to develop but how has he been?

Never seen much from Dufour even when many here had visions of the next Bossy coming. There was a reason he was a late round pick but it’s funny how the Isles struggle to develop players even though the kid made strides before getting into the Bridgeport system where most promising players are turned into beer league prospects. Glad that George didn’t see much time there
If/when the next Bossy comes, we will know it instantly.

It was a decent second assist, but not something you'd call playmaking. Odelius sent a short pass to one guy who sent the puck across ice to the shooter, who accepted the pass and then took a few steps, and simply rocketed a wrist shot past the goalie. Beat him cleanly.

Odelius himself has, for my taste, looked smart & slick at some times and overwhelmed at others. Now, he missed most of last season and even though he was playing pro, it was in Sweden's 2nd league, which is nice, but more akin to the ECHL, in the grand scheme of things.

So, he's really been thrown in the deep end here. Which I don't mind all in all, but I would have rathered seen him getting top 3 minutes with a Djurgarden club that is a heavy favorite this season. Could have been learning a bit more about winning and being somewhere with a few former NHLers in an environment with very high expectations.

Always gotta hope that guys this young and physically underdeveloped aren't being crushed by the losing atmosphere.

One time last night, the puck crossed the baby Islander blueline and he got to it first with a bit of time and simply looked to chip the puck nonchalantly up the boards. But he underestimated the oncoming forward, who somehow kept it in and immediately passed it to a guy cutting down the middle who then took a shot from a good 10 yards out and beat Tikkanen on what was a shot that, well, the goalie has to have.

But like with sooo many of the goals against in BPort, that entire opportunity didn't need to exist if the guys - in this case, Odelius - had just gotten the little thing done safely.

Thanks for the report Chapin. I don’t watch these games just try to grab whatever stats I can find. Flashscore had him down for a primary assist but there you go, was really just a secondary.

Aside from George we really don’t have much D prospects so I’ve been keeping tabs on Pulkkinen Odelius and Veilleux.
