It was a staple of the Torrey/Arbour days, so I can't agree with that
I’ll meet you halfway.

There was a little more tough love back in the day with players being benched briefly to light a fire under them. More importantly and with respect to the current team, a move like this is more out of desperation and a lack of options rather than the prospects being productive in the minors and pushing the franchise to promote them .

But that's hardly unusual these days. Look at goaltending, where top teams are desperate for one, while we have two. In all the top sports, injuries are becoming a serious problem, as depth is lacking. Pitchers blowing their arms out at record pace, QB's and RB's going down in numbers, and a lack of quality starting QB's to begin with. God sakes, the Giants and Jets OL's.

The more athletic the players become, the more they end up missing time. Great young players are already in the NHL in big numbers, the amount of great prospects in junior or college, or even the AHL, is limited throughout the league.

The AHL team is a bigger disaster than the NHL squad

Proves that we have sold the farm to keep our Bumbling aging NHL core together so they can blow leads for still more years to come!
At least we kept our picks last year...
Hope on the horizon if we hit on some youth.

Been this way for a loooooong time

And obviously I care more about the New York iteration of Islanders but holy F dude
I mean it’s nice having good team but players who have come up have contributed at nhl level at to me that’s more important. We also haven’t exactly put together a group of top prospects down there either. I had higher hopes as they added some good minor league vets for this group. They also have played a little better the last few weeks and now with Hogberg back he has given them some serviceable goaltending finally.

That was BPort's 3-game weekend.

I got to watch a bit of the 2nd and 3rd game and honestly, they're getting better.

They seem more cohesive and they're definitely working hard. There are some nice offensive plays going on as well.

And I have to admit, even though this isn't big or all that interesting from an NYI vantage point, these guys Newpower and Gatcomb are visibly MUCH BETTER than their previous stats would indicate.

The team actually has what it takes to be a PO team. The question is simply whether they'll overcome the really lousy start and climb their way up.

I mean, they've been playing considerably better over the past 8-10 games and that has been without Cholowski, Hutton, and George in the line-up. Kids like Odelius are learning on the fly. There's a fairly good, multifaceted mix up front.

And in case no-one had noticed, Justin Gill had 7 points in 8 ECHL games and was then called up. He has 4 assists in 6 AHL since. Not shabby for a rook.

Chapin,
You have a lot more faith in this team than I do. I have seen more than a handfull of games and they are slower, weaker and softer than almost every team they play. I just don`t see playoff upside at this point. I can easily see them being a league wide bottom 5 team more than a playoff team.

What are your opinions on Frederik Karlstrom??? Could you see him taking on 3rd line C duties at some point?
No chance IMO, he’s a career minor leaguer or probably guy that’s heads back to Europe next year. He doesn’t even play center all the time this year. He can score a bit at Ahl level but his skating lacks nhl level ability.

Glad to see Gatcomb showing well!
