Burke's consistent voicing of the need to trade cap space better lead to some interesting deals on his end. He got what he wanted, so hopefully he knows how to use it.
Burke might not be the GM when Luongo retires but he will be the GM when Lu gets traded no matter where he gos in the next few weeks. And he wont look at LTIR as a way to avoid the cap penalty if he is the one to acquire him.
Again no one said he would. Also, why ANY team need to look at LTIR as a way to avoid the cap when they acquire him now? The whole point and issue is when Luongo is nearing retirement, so who the gm now is irrelevant as it will be a non issue for at least the next 5 years probably.
Besides, using LTIR is probably unrealistic as the punishment the NHL would come down on clubs if they abused the LTIR would make any "penalty cap" look like child's play in comparison.
