All he ever does is win. Players want to play for him, because they know they'll win. He has done an excellent job at motivating the team, and getting the players to buy into what he's trying to do. He has them playing tough, phsyical hockey.
Surprisingly, Sutter isn't that complex of a fella. He's not Lemair or anything with X's and O's, Sutter's a very simple coach.

Simple hockey

Accountability

Dicipline

Attention to detail

Play hard

People think Sutter only likes grinders or gritty players, but I wouldn't call Andrew Cogliano gritty. All Sutter wants from his players is to give it their best and to be accountable for their play. As much as gobolts thinks that this thread should operate in isolation to the Latandresse issue, it doesn't, because the Latandresse issue very much describes the way he coaches. But, because he doesn't want any part of that topic in this thread, there's nothing I can really say more about how Brent Sutter goes about his coaching.

For all the crap he took in the Latandresse thread, Sutter being an idiot or stupid or a pylon could have done what he did, he sure deserves his credit.

He also gave Latandresse more then enough chances to get going, but Latandresse just sat on his hands. Benoit Pouliet has also been floating out there, dispite given chance after chance.
I like Sutter and I'm not a huge Latendresse fan... but Latendresse is not playing that bad.... He got todat what 6 or 7 shifts... Its hard to be on the "game". On the p.p, i'm sure he can be more effective than M.Blunden... IMO

Good post. Valuable contribution.

Very insightful
Its a good thing you are not participating here just for an argument. Did you want a handclap for your previous rant? Sutter has done a good job and i'm not going to nitpick. Is that enough insight for you?

You could not say anything at all if you had nothing to add

Just a suggestion. That's always fine.

He got most of those shifts in the 3rd

THe thing about Sutter is he doesn't hand out rewards for "not playing bad" ... especially in a big game, he wants the best out of you. not just "not bad." Like I said above, people think Sutter is all about and only physical hockey and gritty players? Nope, Sutter is all about accountability. He wants his players to be accountable for their play.

This not only makes Sutter a great coach, but great for developing players. It's not surprise that Sutter has been the reason for so many prospects success. You can't teach talent, but you can teach a young player to be accontable for what they do, you can preach consistancy, you can preach work ethic and you can preach strieving for the best, and that is what Brent Sutter does. That is why Brent Sutter is one of the best in the business at what he does.

I don't understand how people can say he's over-rated.

He's literally perfect.

He could not conceivably be better.

Team Canada without him behind the bench wouldn't do nearly as good as it did this year! And he is the only reason why I fear team Canada tomorrow!

So yes, he is a good, actually great, coach and not overrated at all!

It's the players that win, Brent will only ever get credit for a team's loss. :shakehead
