TSN: Brendan Shanahan named President of Toronto Maple Leafs

It really is strange to see the moral shift on the boards. I know we always complain about HFboards but Leaf fans definitely had a different mentality in 2014 then they do now. A lot more optimism going around now that's for sure. We used to expect anything that could go wrong, to go wrong in the worst possible way... All the time..

Definitely a big contrast to now...after Tavares coming home especially.

Hey guys,

Here is Brendan Shanahan Hockey Hall of Fame induction speech from December 4, 2013.

In my opinion, Brendan Shanahan is a very humble, grounded, and extremely modest individual who is very successful.

I am very confident that Brendan Shanahan will eventually transform the Maple Leafs into a legitimate Stanley Cup contender over time and make every single Toronto Maple Leafs fan proud even though he currently lacks NHL management experience.

Brendan Shanahan will succeed where others have failed.

Here is a picture of Brendan Shanahan's wife Catherine with their kids.

You're defintely a hockeywiz, hockeywiz542.

Is there a way I can see if I had a post in this thread? I am curious to know my own opinion back then lol.

I just liked one of your posts, so hopefully you got a notification :thumbu:

Please, Please Santa.
And then Jeff Blashill.

for people not happy about this

1: him not having ties to the organization is a good thing. He's not blinded by the days of yesteryear when we were winningly mediocre not losingly mediocre.

2: The guy knows how to win, and he has been courted for ages. (and apparently by the Leafs for ages too going by the Cox article). He's benefited from the School of Winning Culture: Detroit.

3: him being a rookie is not a bad thing. People keep going 'OMGZ! JFJ!" okay get off it. Yzerman. Rookie. Sakic. Rookie. Roy. Rookie. Cooper. Rookie.

4: Change is coming. Let's go.

Well
Santa brought Babcock instead, so that's good.

the only thing that's sort of dated here is that Roy quit and Sakic kinda bungled stuff for a bit.

Haha wow, Interactif pre-identity crisis in is the early replies. At the time I loved the Shanny hire, it was probably mostly name recognition because I loved the guy as a player. It did give me some hope though, the difference since then is crazy.

Hey, thanks for this!

Surprised to find I never posted in this one - Not sure if I just wasn't that active at the time, or if I just didn't know enough about him at the time to have a real opinion. Either way, I'm glad he's worked out so gosh darn well for us. What a beauty he's been - Like someone else said earlier, he's going to end up in the HHoF again as a Builder.

How about this joke of a story. Loaded with comic relief (below just a sample of many). Criticizing Shanny and Babcock.

"Now, under Babcock, they’ll probably be better. Not much, but enough to take them out of the running for such high-level talents as Auston Matthews, Jesse Puljujarvi, Jakob Chychrun and Matthew Tkachuk – each and every one a franchise cornerstone stud."

"it’s pretty clear that whoever takes the GM job will have Shanahan looking so closely over his shoulder that he’ll be able to tell whether Shanahan brushed his teeth and gargled that morning.
That’s no way to run a franchise. But that’s how it’s going to be run. And Mike Babcock, who suddenly becomes the star of this team, is going to be right in the middle of it for a long, long time.
Good luck, Mr. Babcock. You’re going to need it."

Good luck with the Maple Leafs, Mike Babcock, you're going to need it

Can someone with twitter pls post this article and make it known what an idiot Campbell looks like now?

The Leafs turn-around goes back farther than Shanahan, though Shanahan deserves his praise as well.

George Cope, good sir, I proudly wear my suit to Leaf games, and continue to congratulate you on achieving the end of one of the most terrible reigns of any general manager in professional sports.

Just wait until he's able to pitch and sign Seguin next year to be the 3C at a hometown discount :sarcasm:
