I hope his contract will be buy out before the end of it. 6,5 millions for that kind of player is one of the reason why the team is at the bottom. With the cap era right now, each contract needs to be a good one to make playoff
Probably buy him out at end of '25 season. Caphit be 1.8 million for 4 years. But I think Habs can carry it because we will have a lot of youth on ELC.

Play Gallagher as 13th forward next season. Or send him to minors.

If we buy him out this summer caphit be higher for 6 years. Be 2.25 million but until 2030. We do save 4.3 million in caproom next season though.

It's hard choice, maybe we should have a poll on it? Buy Gallagher out this summer or summer of '25?

Buy him out, or put him on Robidas Island.................this guy has become so useless.
To think he is making 8M this year, and 9M next year, is beyond dumb.
Thx MB....

I think they will end up buying him out. Either that or he comes up with a career ending injury. I think because of the position the team is in, they’ll wait at least until at least the summer of 2025 before they do something.

There were a few sequences last night where he had the puck and some space to work with, but his skating has gotten so bad that the defense had no problem closing in on him and working him into a corner before he could do anything with it. He still tries super hard but he generates so little movement at this point and he'll only get slower. If the action isn't right in front of the net, he's basically useless.

The thing is that there is no cap pressure to buy him out next summer. Guhle and Slaf will both still be on their ELCs, and those who do need new contracts (like Barron and Xhekaj) are going to sign cheap bridge deals.

So when there's no cap issues like that, it makes no sense to 'rush' the buyout. Now you can argue that there's no pressure in 2025 either because, even with Guhle and Slaf needing new contracts, there's a bunch of expiring ones (like Dvorak, Armia, Savard and Allen assuming no one is traded before that). That said, it still makes no sense to rush the buyout when it's not necessary because that way the cap penalties will be worse in the future. Also he isn't really blocking anyone either, you can just bury him in the 4th line/pressbox.

Buying him out next summer makes sense only if they decide to really start spending in trying to improve the team. Like making a big trade, going after Nylander or something.

Team leading -17
Team leading salary at 8M actual dollars paid this season......

Sad....he is now the little engine that just can't. 23 games and no goals, something like that...

MSL reduce this guys icetime...........quickly.

I don't think I've ever seen Gallagher suck as much as he did last night. It was painfully brutal to watch. He got his penalties because he's completely gassed and has to reach with his stick to cover the opp. player.

It's at a point where I genuinely believe that you could replace him with anyone on the Rocket and get better results.

He should be scratched, but he won't be.

He's awful but somehow still better than I thought he would be this year.

My issues with him are more so defensively he's careless out there I don't mind if he puts 0 points but hes a negative defensively right now as a vet its a tough look

I just noticed Gallagher is a -19......-19!! What the actual f***?....The 2nd worst is -10.

I mean I know that +/- isn't everything, but clearly he can't back check anymore, or not very well anyways.

He's not careless he's just not good enough anymore. He has to cheat to get where he needs to be and he can't get back because he's slow and has the worst cardio in the league. If Gallagher and Patrick Maroon were hidden on the ice and all you could see is an highlighted dot on the ice, you wouldn't be able to tellt he difference between the two.

For me?
THE single worse passer in all of the NHL, just can't get nothing through, ever

But worst of all, when there's 2 mins left in a game we're actually in?
GUESS who takes a penalty, everytime.

If he got a -1 when they score whenever he's in the box he'd be at -30 ffs

The will is there, the body can't follow anymore.

He can't play 82 games/15 minutes anymore, but injuries and past achievements are keeping him as a permanent fixture in the line-up this season.

Yup, summer 2025. We have one more year then I expect a buyout. We can afford it.
Price might be tradable after july 1st 2025. Only 2 millions left to pay on his last 10.5 millions year. Arizona currently have 21 millions on IR (Voracek, Weber and Little) that will be gone by that time and they don't have any kids due for a big raise. They'll have to pad a bit probably. So let's "hope" Gallagher can be put on LTIR after 2015 ... i don't wish bad things to anyone but Gallagher can't really play at this level anymore anyway and getting his money on LTIR would not be that bad.

Yeah, we definitely might be able to trade Price after we pay his final signing bonus for his final season. And, not just to Arizona, as Chicago might need help reaching the cap floor too. Both organizations will have a lot of young players on ELC, with a high floor to reach.

Montreal might be in the same situation, so we'll see.

While everyone is hoping for Gallagher, LTIRetirement, I don't see it. He's still only 31, which is not old in hockey. It's more late prime, but not for Gallagher. I think he tries to play out his contract, which will necessitate a buyout.

I can see him being resigned by another team like Drouin though.

Yeah, Gallagher doesn't show any signs that he'd like to stop playing, and the fact that he's stayed healthy enough to play this year is probably encouraging him further.

I can totally see a team picking him up as a depth guy at a far less contract figure if he's bought out.

I think the habs would be better served with Gallagher out of the line-up. I'm really fed up with his back breaking brain farts and his very untimely penalties. If he wasn't such a liability, I'd live with his mediocre production but right now, the only thing he's good for is the tank. I guess some people here like it but I'm not sure his teammates and his coach do.

I wonder why they don't simply send him to the AHL. It's not as if we need the dead cap space anyway but we certainly could use the roster spot more wisely. I really hope something happens because I can't stand seeing him on the ice anymore.

He has a NMC which prohibits the Habs to waive him, send him to the AHL or trade him. Hughes is stuck with him.

Gallagher has three years on his contract after this one. The LTIR spot is already taken up by Price for two of those years, and a buyout this coming summer would cost a minimum of 2.67 million/year for six years.

I think the Habs are stuck with Gallagher for at least one more season after this one.
