I think it's time for my "Gallagher will bounce back, he was very unlucky last year". And I'll be wrong again this year.
Nothing wrong with that , you bring balance to a world of non believer

Not the most talented NHLer by any means.
No but he can definitely stick it to all the more *talented* guys who amount to nothing in the NHL , I've never seen a non enforcer regular forward with Brendan Gallagher's stick handling ability in my life in the NHL and he carved a solid career , what a beauty he was in his hayday

His greatest attribute was his ability to make plays under duress something Lehky couldn't do or he would have had a number of seasons over 30 goals. That part of his game is not as evident anymore. We don't see him popping out of scrums from behind the net with the puck any more. The funny thing is we were talking about his downfall in like year three he was never going to play at that level for very long.

He did it for 7-8 years which is very impressive. He took everyone head-on, no questions asked. His battles with Chara are legendary. A total warrior

Is this year 3 or year 4 of hoping he will bounce back?
Poor guy...............the little engine That Just Can't Anymore.
Never a player who possessed great stamina, injuries and age have reduced his effectiveness to only 20 seconds each shift. After that he is effectively playing for the other team. Gallagher is a great warrior who is grossly overpaid for what he can now contribute. It will only get worse over the remaining years of his contract. Much worse.

Bang on............

I thought he looked good at the end of the season last year. Pretty much what he used to be. I think he can still score 20 if he stays healthy but that’s a long shot. He needs to work on his cardio instead of power training all offseason. Maybe those workouts are detrimental

I think he needs to work on his endurance and cardio. Any player who can't play more than 20 seconds on a shift is detrimental to his team. Gally is done, let's say it. The best service he can do for his team is short shifts, less than 10 minutes of play per game and being on the injury often, Limited damage.

I think this is a less discussed topic. People call him a warrior, heart & soul, lead by example, etc. but players aren't stupid. They don't want to play on a line with a penalty magnet and a guy who is gassed before the shift is over. I hope for everybody's sake Gallagher has worked on his cardio and taken his career seriously. He will be benched or bought out or pushed toward LTIR before the contract is over at this rate.

For me, the turning point was the 2020-2021 covid year. He was fine until that mid season injury which knocked him out until the playoffs.

When he came back for that playoff against Toronto, he looked bad. I was wishing it was just him trying to shake off rust from his long term layoff, but he just never rounded back into form ever since.

As far as his stamina goes, you'd figure since his dad was a conditioning coach in the WHL, and for the gym rat that Gallagher is, that conditioning should not be an issue. But he does often look like he is labouring out there. Gallagher has accumulated some gruesome looking injuries. Earlier in his career, he used to be right back out there after taking a seemingly hard knock. Now you wince everytime he has an incident, like that errand stick that made crash into the wall last year. His body can't withstand that stuff anymore.

I don’t think it has anything to do with Gallagher failing to work on his conditioning. It's all a question of this player's physiology. Some players are born with incredible endurance. Henri Richard was a classic example. Richard could skate a 2 minute shift with only minimal diminution of effectiveness at the end of his shift. Other players show a marked ineffectiveness at the end of shifts half as long. Gallagher has always been a one and done player. One rush up the ice and you could see the deterioration in the level of his play. Gallagher could train with Usain Bolt and it would make only a marginal difference. Gallagher overcame his limitations with great intensity and courage. He was the proverbial warrior. But his physiological limitations have been magnified by an unending string of injuries and age. At this stage of his career there is little Gallagher can do halt the now inexorable diminution in his on-ice performance. This outcome, which is now so hard to watch, was apparent to anyone who had insight and an understanding of the dynamics of this sport. That we we gave this loyal, but declining player, a six year contract, was pure and utter folly.

He’s always had a heavy set for a guy his size. That was always going to work against him as he got older. Add in the injuries and you get what we’ve seen the last 3 seasons. Anyone with two functioning brain cells could’ve figured out moving on from Gallagher when his last contract was up was the perfect time but here we are.

Cardio is not and never has been an issue for Gallagher. He is just a really bad skater who expends a ton of energy by compensating with extreme effort. He is a fitness nut and a gym rat but is burdened with an incredibly inefficient stride. He leaves absolutely everything on the ice on every shift and it is his strong cardio that allows him to do this and to recover for his next shift.

Is it just cardio? From what I see on the ice, Brendan likes to go in front of the net to collect a few concussions and then get back to the bench.

I have never thought Gallagher’s strength was his conditioning. He always openly exhibited great fatigue towards the end of his shifts. Watch him now and he struggles just to get back to the bench after a short shift. It will only get worse over the coming years.

Gallagher played last season on broken ankle speaks volumes about his character. If he can stay healthy I think he can score 25 again
