Yup. June 2025. That's the first year we can really look at a buy-out for him.
That poison pill year really hurts. I think it would be more win-win to induce him to take a visit to Robidas Island and LTIRetirement, he gets to keep all his earnings as opposed to 2/3rds of it.

At any rate, better to wait to see if he legitimately goes on LTIR, than to buy him put too early.

You have to think all these lower body injuries (likely knee), and hand injuries will eventually catch up to him like it did Alzner.

It unfortunately means we are going to be in LTIR for awhile, which sucks.

June 2025 Price will have one more year. Gallagher 2 years.

So in 2025-2026, we could have $17m in LTIR between Price & Gallagher. Then down to Gallagher's $6.5m in 2026-2027.

Hopefully, with the cap going up for the 2024-2025 season, we can trade Price's contract to a floor team, like Arizona, summer of 2024.

With a rising cap, it means floor rises too.

We'll see, I guess.

Hughes has himself quite a mess to dig out of. Dadonov sucks but thank God we got out of Weber's contract.

It would be great if Gallagher went on permanent LTIR. Like Weber, It would work out well... we could trade either Gallagher or Price's contract for something like 1 year of Dadonov.

BUT, not all past their prime players go on LTIR. See James Neal, Lucic, Andrew Ladd, ...

He’s still hurt, that’s why he’s no good. Just wait until he gets “healthy”.

Hopefully he shuts it down for the year...
7 months till next season camp, time enough to heal and get a few blocks of serious training in.

Really sucks how quickly he fell completely off the map. Knew it was a bad contract, but figured we'd get at least 2-3 good years before he started to trend this badly

You don’t really think this healing time thing is real do you?

I think athletes can and do make impressive comebacks at times from career threatening injuries.

I think I don't know enough about what Gallagher's physical ailments since 2020-21 where he played through injury and started the rapid decline in productivity...

I think that Gally has the type of work ethic that IF it is a physical issue that can recover with prolonged rest and targeted strengthening or technical adjustment, a long break could be exactly what he needs to regain a form better than the borderline bottom 6 level he showed this year...

Gally could change the way he plays but he never played 90%, he always left everything on the ice. So I'm not sure if he can evolve into a softer or more technical player in his 30s. I would say nobody would agree he could play differently than how he played thru his career.

I meant a bit more in the technique sense, but I agree, he's unlikely to change the approach or competitiveness aspect of his game... Can he figure out some adjustments to how he moves, skates, shoots, trains, recovers et. enough to regain both the confidence and focus his previous success was built on? I hope so... He deserves better than to see the last chapter of his career get written like this.

I don’t think he “deserves” better — this was always going to be his fate.

He came to the NHL based on his effort level. Once his physical effectiveness wore down he showed he has nothing else. He’s all hustle, little skill. Good positioning and defensive tenacity but if you lost your motor then you’re useless all the same.

He was never going to fade away gently like Corey Perry — a much smarter, larger, much much more skillful player.

He had a career best ~80 game stretch from 2019-2021, then a career worst year in 21-22.

That abrupt change wasn't the inevitable decline you speak of.

If he can address the acute physical or mental issue that caused this sharp decline, he'll reclaim a level better than what we saw this year. If he can't, he won't.
