With his work ethic, competitiveness & pride, plus the long offseason, I would imagine he arrives at camp in the best shape of his career & with a bigger than usual chip on his shoulder.

I wouldn't bet on it, but I also wouldn't be surprised to see him have a very good start to the season... As always, injuries will be an ongoing concern, but if he stays relatively healthy, I could see a big bounce back season with 25-30 goals & 50ish points (or pace, if he does miss time), returning to the productivity pace he was at consistently pre-Ducharme & long playoffs

At 30, the wheels should not have fully fallen off yet, right? Please?

If he has a bad season again I would just buy him out if he can't be traded. The guy got a contract based off of a very emotional GM that CRIED! like wtf!?!?
We won't be buying him out with 4 years left on his contract. As many others have mentioned, we have plenty of cap relief coming in the next few off-seasons. Quite simply, we are stuck with Gallagher and his contract so get used to it.
Also, our emotional brain dead GM crying when announcing this contract has nothing to do with anything and is old news. It is what it is.

He has enough money for an excellent hair transplant.
Ouch!!!

To be honest, I have a lot more faith in a Gally comeback than a Drouin comeback. I wonder if that kid just doesn’t enjoy playing anymore, at least not at this level.

How a buyout in 2023 looks like. We actually save cap space in 24/25?

I think he'll have a fine season this year. Something like 25G 20A in 65-70 games playing mostly 5v5 mins with Dvorak if he stays or Dach/maybe Dubois otherwise. I've said this before but I think the tapdancing on his grave last year was a bit premature, he was good as recently as 20-21. I realize that players like Gallagher often hit a wall in their 30s, but I wouldn't be so sure that last season is definitive proof he's just cooked now. A 30 year old looking broken down after a deep playoff run and an ~8 week offseason does not necessarily mean he will be unable to play after a normal 18-20 week offseason.

For a comparison, the Habs are still 2 entire months away from training camp right now, but in last offseason's timeframe, camp would be starting right about now. That's really brutal especially when there were injuries from 20-21 that spilled over into the playoffs and he didn't have the time to recover after the finals run. I don't really think he'll be "worth" the contract but I think he probably still has a few more solid years left and maybe in a season or two there's a way to swap him for someone's 4.5M 3rd pair D contract that fills a need for us or something like that.

I can’t get over how horribly structured his contract is. Making $9 million in year 4 of the deal at 32 y/o? Why even bother with a NTC at that point? Definitely stuck with him, no way a team would take on the real dollars of his contract at that stage.

the bargainbin legacy...

reason #999 that we should have fired him far, far sooner... yet some, amazingly, were still inclined to keep him around even as the long inevitable implosion was well underway last season... because "he's learning" :biglaugh:

If he bounces back in any way hope Hughes moves him first chance he gets before Gallagher gets injured again.

Dany Heatley.

H
Id like him to adapt his game.
Theres nothing heroic about going for seconds at the concussion buffet on every shift.
He has no talent and his skating is atrocious. The only way he scored goals was from scrambles around the net. He's not someone who can change his game and be effective. And he's way too expensive for what he can bring. He's a pricey 3rd liner at this point. MB should've sold when he still had value. Now, they couldn't give him away.

Gallagher shouldn’t be named captain. He could lead by example, but he can’t anymore… He probably has the most courage and pain threshold on the team. I love the guy…. But years of abuse have completely broken down his body. The wheels are falling off. He’s a spent force. At any moment he can go from his present state of being bruised and battered to bereft of hockey life.
