I don't think he requested that NTC just for the giggles.

Until July 1, 2025, even if a team was willing to take on that contract, it also has to be a team and city he wants to go to.

Obviously, I can't say with 100% certainty, but I would think there are at least a few playoff teams with Cup aspirations who would view Schenn as a viable 2C option

I could see Winnipeg, for example, being interested in Schenn if they move on from Dubois this summer

Carolina could be another possible suitor if Staal opts not to return

Boston could have both a need and the cap space this summer

Columbus is forever in need of help up the middle, and will have Voracek's 8.25 million expiring contract to send back in trade

Or, maybe he retires as a Blue
While Boston may have the need, Bruins likely won't have the cap space, unless St. Louis is taking back Reilly at bare minimum. Or St. Louis is retaining.

With Pastrnak still needing to be re-signed, at least 1/3 of their cap space going to him, and about 10 roster spots. It's a hard deal to make fit.

Before bonuses and Pastrnak Bruins have 26 million cap space and about 10-11 spots to fill, not including Pastrnak, and ~4-4.5M bonuses being pushed to next year.

Signed from age 31-36 at $6.5M. Still holding his own on production but for how long? I would not gamble he holds top 6 value in those span of years.

Ask yourself these two questions. 1 - When was the last time a contender traded for a guy that has that much term and money left on their contract? 2 - When was the last time a player with that much term and money left on their contract got traded? Once you answer one or both of those questions, you'll have your answer.

Call me crazy but I would do Schenn for Boeser and Pearson and use him as a replacement for Horvat and get picks and prospects in the Horvat deal.

Having both brothers on the team would definitely change the culture and bring in 2 winners that are good old Canadian boys. I don’t see the team being that competitive the next 5 years anyways. Definitely a retool move if that is their plan going forward and could pair well with Miller.

Can we just lock this thread? Even if the Blues were looking to move Schenn, which they almost certainly aren't, it's clear from these replies that most people are undervaluing Schenn. It would be pointless to trade away a 60+ point center, who's a team leader and heart and soul guy just for the sake of it. The Blues have other more realistic trade options if they end up going that route. The OP isn't even a Blues fan as far as I know, so not sure why the thread was made in the first place.

Age and contract make him not all that valuable. That is a high cap hit for a 31 year old, secondary scorer.

Right.

I think we will go into full rebuild at some point soon, if not this year, then 2 years from now. He is probably the one forward I would want to be around to be a leader in the locker room after RoR, Perron, Tarasenko, Barbashev, etc, are all long gone. You cannot have a team of rookies when you are rebuilding, must retain some form of veteran presence, and take the load off the young players.

Schenn is the only remaining link on the roster to Bobby Plager and the Plager/Blues pride legacy. This might not seem like anything important to outsiders who don't follow the Blues, but, within Blues World, the Plager identity is the franchise identity. I'd be pretty surprised if this isn't well-understood in the organization. There's greater intangible value for him remaining with the Blues.
