Muzzin 2.0, so the 2013-2014 version of Muzzin.

Yep. Growing pains and further flashes of brilliance. Kid has all the tools. His breakout passes are fantastic. Love everything about him really and excited what he can do after a full offseason

I feel like the org picked him up as Mitchell's replacement alongside VOynov on the 2nd pairing so eager to see how it shakes down thru the year

Hopefully he can bounce back after the awful way he was handled this past season by the staff.

The size, skating and talent is obviously there but no matter who you are you are going to struggle when you are scratched after turning a corner and looking great.

Still makes me mad.

Sitting him when he was playing at his best, both physically, defensively and even contributing offensively, made absolutely no sense.

I don't care if he was the least experienced defenseman in the lineup, he was playing better than both Martinez and Greene at that point in the season, he wouldn't waste time getting the puck out of his own end and was making smart, heady plays.

I think he has all the tools to be a dman who can be used in every situation, his game is still growing and I think he'll make further strides next season, hopefully as a second pairing dman alongside Sekera.

Assuming Sutter doesn't do anything stupid with him and play favorites with some older worse performing defenseman, I think he's a top 2 pairing 30 point defender. He's the long term Willie Mitchell replacement in my eyes. Once he learns how to let his slap shot loose, he's really going to be a threat from the blueline.

He will be fine.

Muzzin was scratched plenty in his young career, he turned out just fine.

25 points is pretty good for a young player. Dan Girardi gets around 25 points a season and he is an average top 4 defender.

I do expect more out of him in the future though, since he is more than just a stay at home defenseman.

McNabb had 24 points last season with limited minutes. I think he can get more than one more point than that next season with increased ice time.

Muzzin's PPG dropped between his first year and second year. It's defensemen in a defensive system, they won't show progressive point increases all the time, it's certainly not a shoo-in.

If McNabb can get 35-40 points next season, we don't need Sekera or Voynov or any other top 4 D. Just have Forbort or Miller take his spot on the third pairing.

I would be very surprised if that happened though.

That is a big roll of the dice.

why in the world would he get less ? the kid is a up and coming stud ...the negative vibes are crazy on this board at times lol

As I pointed out, Muzzin's PPG dropped, the only reason he actually had more points was because his first year was in the lockout season. Its not a guarantee he improves numbers wise. There's a reason they call it a sophomore jinx.

I'm expecting a sophomore slump, but hoping DS allows him to play through it. He should be one of our second pairing DMen for a few years.

I expect, and want, 20+ points and 20 minutes a night on the 2nd pairing.

Slow in his own end defending. Needs to improve! Good handling the puck though once he gets it. Good on offensive blue line. Can play PP minutes. Overall, had a good season. It was his third season in playing games in the NHL. Could have played more but couldn't crack Buffalo's young lineup when his was young himself. I know, everyone wants to call him a rookie last year, but the truth is, he had already played quite a bit to get the jitters out prior to playing last season. Fourth season slump is possible, but I doubt it. And, he already had a sophomore slump with Buffalo. Maybe we'll sign Sekera, but you never know, he might have a sophomore slump? I know I'm getting a little qwertyjhgfds!!!! But.....!
