This. I haven’t looked at their stats but Wood has always stood out to me whenever we’ve played the Devils. Bratt not so much.

Wood’s kinda built for those rivalry type games against NYR tbh, Bratt usually destroys teams with slower skating and more physical defensive cores. He had a sick goal versus St. Louis a year or two ago which highlights his entire game tbh.

Doesn't matter that Bratt is the better player if he's being traded to a team that has a bunch of guys like him, he'll end up on the 3rd or 4th line. Wood is suited to play on those lines, so if a contender was taking one, they'd probably go for the less skilled but more physical Wood.

This isn't simply a which guy is better question, I'd rather have Bratt, but I completely understand why people are saying Wood and don't necessarily think they are wrong
Or, you play Bratt on the bottom 6 and he destroys lower lines. Again, if it were close (and it's not), then sure, take the guy who's style you like. Bratt is just a far better player.

I think Bratt would look great with Kadri and Burakovsky. Nichushkin already has the 3LW spot on lock

You take the better player, no questions asked. Bratt projects as a top line winger. Wood is a 3rd line winger.

Bratt is a top line winger if you're a team that is in the bottom of the league. If in two years he's still in their top two lines that will mean they missed on top liners in the draft and with the Tatar trade.

All I know is that Bratt produces at a much higher rate than Wood and doesn’t take a million penalties. You’re comparing a top 6 player to a 4th liner lmao

Huh? Wood scored TEN more goals than Jesper Bratt - despite seeing far less time in the top two lines or on the power play.

And played 9 more games and still had 5 less points...

Okay then. Your opinion of Bratt couldn't possibly have anything to do with the fact that he's Swedish, right?

Wood's BEST season is 32 points in 76 games. Bratt's WORST season is 32 points in 60 games.

Brat has 9 more career points in 92 fewer games played.

They are just simply not comparable. Bratt is an excellent 2nd liner and would play top-6 an nearly every team in the league. Wood is a passable 3rd liner.

A bunch of secondary assists does not a better player make. And as for the Swedish thing, if his name were Hedman would be another story.

I like both players, but would rather see Wood on the Ducks. Not because he's better but because he's more unique. We already have Zegras, Terry and Steel who are similar player types to Bratt, as well as whole bunch of other small or soft forwards.

No, but consistently scoring more points does.

Bratt has 26 more points in 31 less games since 2017-18.

Any devils fan will tell you bratt is the better player, and it's not even close.

Who do I take here, one of the worst defensive forwards on the team, or one of the best defensive forwards in the league? A guy that scores at a first line rate, or a guy that scores at a third line rate? A guy that positively impacts every line he's on, or someone that gets caved almost every time he steps on the ice. Man, tough to choose!

I usually don't come to this side of the tracks but this has been an entertaining 2 pages to read.

Edit: I don't mean that negatively at all for the record.

The entertaining thing is how other teams fans seem value Wood a lot more the Devils fans do.

I am Wood fan, but wont vote on this.

Since the 2017-18 season Miles Wood leads NJ in Even Strength Goals. And is tied for second in all situation with Nico Hischier.

NHL Stats

He is a pretty unique player - There isn't a tremendous amount of finesse in his game, but his shot is a bit underrated, straight line speed is something behold and he can play in the trenches which few other Devil forwards do.

This question "Which would you rather" to me is more of value judgement- or a situational need...Do you prefer a pick-up truck or a corvette?

Funny thing is for New Jersey, truth be told, a guy like Bratt is less important than a guy like Wood in my view...We have small skilled players throughout the lineup...We don't have any other player that could bring anything close to what Wood does.

Plus Jesper would acquire a much better deal I think

Problem is hes best friends with Nico and Pavel (the first line) so I doubt that happens until after this year, if things dont work out

Wood, I don’t care if Bratt is “better”, I can find a super low end 2nd line winger anywhere.

They’re both whatever role players, but Wood offers something more rare with his size + speed, Bratt is a dime a dozen nothing player. I could go spend $4-5M in literally any free agency year or a 2nd rounder at any TDL and get Bratt's production.
