Brantford Bulldogs 2024 25 Season Thread Part I

no free speech?

Still think Brantford will win series but HUGE loss and game 3 in Oshawa you already know they’re going to be rowdy as hell. Egorov playing too who is good but not Leenders good.
No. That’s fine. To be honest it’s the outcome I’d probably most expect…but I don’t think I’d roll into another teams sub presenting it in such an obnoxious way. Trust me. We’re well aware of what’s been lost.

Great. If you don’t like what say I’m pretty sure there is an ignore button kicking around somewhere.

I speak my mind can’t be mad at that. If the OHL had mvps per conference like how in baseball there’s an AL and NL mvp Lardis would probably win that unanimously for the east. Everyone knows it’s a huge loss but I’m sure some don’t understand just how much he means to Brantford. I’d say it would be equivalent to maybe fronts losing Guindon or Battaglia but I don’t think either of those guys come close Lardis so that’s why I mentioned cal Ritchie

Brantford already playing without Leenders too. That’s probably their 2 most important players- elite starting goalie (Leenders) and MVP of east (Lardis)

Even with Leenders and Lardis in the lineup I don't think Brantford has a good enough defense to win by outscoring teams like London and Windsor. They have some few decent d-men but they also have a few d-men that are a disaster in their own end when pressured and the best teams will pressure the hell out of them - Jiricek being the prime example - he has offensive upside be he is abysmal in his own end. It also doesn't help that some of the forwards who play big minutes cheat on offense more than they should (Lardis).

As a Hawks fan I would love to see them play all the way into the Finals so I can continue to watch Hawks prospects Lardis and Vanacker - I just don't see them being the best all-around team in the OHL.

Gibson, but it wasn't dirty. Just unfortunate. Just a guy trying to finish his check hard on a guy that you want to try and finish your checks on.

I agree it wasn't dirty. Opposing teams are going to target Lardis - hockey strategy 101 - and there's nothing "wrong" with that. Besides his elite shot, he's also a "slippery" skater the way he uses his edges and quickness to get around opposing players to avoid getting pasted which is what he was trying to do when he got injured. The opposing player was lining him up for a big hit against the boards when Lardis made a last second move to avoid taking the total impact and the Oshawa player widened his footing to at least get a piece of him and knees collided.

Absolutely nothing, that I have seen. I don't see how there is any way he's not done, unless it was an absolute world class stinger.

I would consider it a hockey miracle if I was wrong.
Who do we think goes in the lineup? Not that they will play much. I liked the way O’Keefe played in the games he was in this year. Chan is a nice story but he is too slow for playoff hockey

I would use O'Keefe. He has some experience, I think you can trust him defensively, and take a draw if the line gets stuck out there and someone gets tossed out.

He doesn't give you any size, but I think you just need 30 seconds from him here and there.

The bigger question is who moves up with Thomas and Brown? Do you leave Testa with the 2nd line? Rossetto may offer you the most offensive pop, but do you trust him as much as Avery? I've like the Tsherna/Nelson/Crombrie trio. I dunno.

Obviously you can't replace Lardis, but maybe you can get more defensive responsibility out of the 1st line without him. Hope everyone else can chip in offensively.

I agree with O’Keefe for all reasons stated.

Rosetto has the most similar style to Lardis than anyone else, but I worry he gets eaten alive by Oshawa due to size/age. Do you put Avery on that line…or do you bump up Testa and put Avery with Vanacker and O’Brien…or do you slot O’Donnell in? Maybe that’s where O’Keefe goes? 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think it comes down to how much do they want to mess with the other lines…

Also - what hockey gods do we start praying to?

Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of other goal scorers on the team, and I hope that take the opportunity to step up. But I was enjoying seeing the team play with full lines, and Lardis is just so damn fun to watch. And personally, I’m not ready to be done watching him play as Bulldog and hate to see him go out that way…

I dunno. Let's assume Lardis is out, its a safe bet. The roster is still good enough to get 1 game out of 2 in Oshawa.

Junior hockey, its wild sometimes. Do they band together to get it done or panic at the thought of losing their #1 G and F. Say a prayer for Hamara.

League must have been waiting to see the injury status before the Gibson suspension.

Would 100% be on brand for the league office.
So the league is also admitting the refs got it wrong because they reviewed the play and gave no penalty. If it was a clean hit as the refs thus determined then you can’t suspend a player 2 games. Either that or some new video footage has been made available that shows the hit was bad

I really thought it was just an unfortunate play. A play that happens all of the time in hockey that just had a bad outcome.

Very surprised at the suspension.

I mean…the fact that two players dropped their gloves before the game even started and no penalties were given kind of set the reffing precedence for the game…

They showed only one replay during the game and from that camera angle you couldn't see the contact on the knee. You could tell where the knee was from where the rest of the body was but not where the actual impact was. You could see that Gibson widened his stance a bit like he thought Lardis was going to slip the hit and he wanted to get a piece of him. It didn't look egregious like he intended to do it - more like a last second reaction.
