I still think the most likely scenario is that Blake sends Clarke to Ontario before the deadline, calls him up to sit in the press box for playoff games, and does the whole “We need him to be an NHL player next year” shtick in the exit interview.

Personally I’m on Team Trade Him at this point. It sucks to see this movie playing out yet again on the Kings and I would get more enjoyment from seeing him blossom on another team a la Faber and Vilardi than I would knowing that we might see him arrive “right on schedule” in the 2027 playoffs. Adding another scorer right now would at least be giving lip service to Luc’s claims that this team is a contender.

Laine at 50% might make some sense for both teams. Mailloux is going to take much longer than expected, and other than Reinbacher Montreal is pretty much barren at RD.

If LA is looking for a short term RHS PP guy I can't think of many better suited to that.

Laine is the exact type of player that would not make sense for the Kings.

It would be crazy for LA to trade him right now, but you know, with Bergevin being there...
getting hosed in the Dubois trade, and then re-trading him, Faber (although Fiala's been good)...
nothing would surprise me

Some pretty good ideas so far really, I appreciate it.

I’m just reading between the lines. The org has made some bizarre comments about Clarke this year similar the ones they made about Vilardi and Faber before they jettisoned them.

The night Clarke made the sweet move around Pietrangelo and fed Kopitar Hiller said some weird shit about how he can’t take chances like that and they’ve successfully tanked his ice time and beaten the creativity out of him, all downhill ever since.

To me, between that, Blake being desperate to get out of the first round and assessing this team as a real threat, and Clarke consistently being the only odd-man-out with value, I think he’s a goner for whatever Blake sees as an upgrade.

Did Clarke sleep with Hiller's daughter or something? What the heck?!?!?!
