I wonder if they do something around Saad for Perron as a base. No one is taking Saad without cap going back. Whether the Senators would kick in assets, and what assets those would be, I won't guess.

As far as I understand it, St.Louis is still where his family considers their home. (Kind of like Karlsson with Ottawa). If they have roots there, they might be welcome to a reset. He apparently has an upper body injury, but it is unclear if the time away is related to the above situation. They haven't placed him on LTIR, but as we all know LTIR is easy enough to manipulate for older players where a lingering injury that they could choose to play through could be enough to allow them to pass (or fail?) a third party medical exam.

Forsberg was hurt training before the game last night. If Forsberg is injured for a while, a Sogaard for Hofer swap could be a logical starting point since I doubt Ottawa trusts Sogaard as their NHL backup at this point and his ceiling (however unlikely) and extra year of cost-control might appeal to St.Louis vs Hofer who will be waiver eligible.

Regardless though the point still stands Berube did have him with the Blues, he knows Saad and Saad is the type of player the Leafs need.

There is absolutely a fit the only question would be how to make the money work.

Blues would retain 50%, I expect him to get traded at the deadline. Over the next two months he'll probably start to look better on the ice too, as the Blues overall become more productive under Montgomery.

At 50% retention a contender can cough up a late 2d for a veteran winger plug & play playoff option, that is what we are hoping. Some think you can add more nickles and dimes to Saad to get a first back but that is not happening. If the current offer is only a 3d just hold onto the guy a little longer and see

Not sure the shadow part is really all that true. Saad has consistently been the most streaky consistent player in the NHL. He had an almost identical statline last season around this time. He'll go on one of his streaks and end up with 20-25 goals and 40-45 points. It's just what he does.

Funny enough, it's actually exactly what his playoff history is through 82 playoff games. 22G, 22A. Been virtually the same player since 2018.

I'd agree Buffalo would be a good fit for him. Factor in his experience of winning etc it would be a good voice to have in the room. I liked what the Sabres did with adding McLeod and Malenstyn, but I really think they lack veteran voices to help guide the younger players through. Not a talent problem there. They could maybe use a bit more of a defensive presence on their backend too, but i'm not sure how they go about that as most teams could stand to benefit from that as well.

I'd imagine adding that type of player was the idea with adding Zucker. Just not sure it's enough.

Well unfortunately our GM is an idiot who basically just drafts for five years and does nothing, he just likes putting kids on the roster. He couldn't build our roster properly and develop young players among the right veterans, he just decided to give them 4 spots in the top 6 and forget about it.

We just need a few good veterans and the right team structure, thanks for the answer, good luck.
