Confirmed with Link: Brandon Carlo (15% retention) for Fraser Minten, conditional 2026 1st, 2025 4th

These are the kinds of trades management should be targetting

Relatively young players who can play important roles and signed to reasonable term. Giving up good assets is fine because you got a top 4 RD at a cheap AAV during your contention window

I know +/- can be misleading but that is a remarkable turn around and the credit goes mostly to Carlo
Carlo has done quite well, and is looking like a good addition, but it's more about getting away from Myers and OEL. Reilly has also been playing better and to his strengths more, and was already due for a +/- correction.
He did add Schenn and that was probably Rielly's best playoff, but always rentals.
He gave Rielly Brodie, and they played great together for years.

Brodie was really good for the first couple of years. I agree.

He's been a great presence back there. Knows what his job is and sticks to doing it impeccably.

Guys like him are the perfect alternative if you can't build a high skill backend.

Just round it out with minute munching defensive guys

Tres best trade by fsr since joining the organization. And one of his better moves overall

He's been a defensive beast

I feel like he makes recoverable mistakes. Like maybe he loses body position here or a puck there but there’s enough positional solidity, wingspan, physically taking up space calmly that you can get out of a jam with him out there. He doesn’t seem to be prone to the catastrophic breakdown on a regular basis where the house is on fire.

Just having your stick in the right place can really get you out of so many binds, even if you occasionally get into those binds by yourself.

Trading for Muzzin amd McCabe were big additions. Just too bad about Muzzin's health.

Dubas should have went hard after Tanev years ago.

But thank goodness the days of Holl are over.
I wanted a dman back in 2020 how good would Guhle look on our D he's going to be a stud

You mean he is the Anti-Liljegren? :D

To date this trade outweighs the Laughton trade as a net positive for the Leafs... even though Laughton hasn't been up to expectation, Carlo's impact on the d-core has been very noticeable.

Great acquisition. Even if Minten and that first become steady players, this would be a win-win deal.
There is no coincidence that Rielly was +13 over the last 12 games. Carlo was a massive addition

Fact this thread was buried on page 3 is actually a testament to this guy. You don't notice him, he just gets the job done.

What an amazing add, he's completed this D corp. . Reliable, steady, smart, great stick, great on the wall, good poise with outlet passes, still can't believe we snagged him at the deadline. The unsungest of heroes so far.

Agreed. I feel a legit sense of calm just seeing him on the ice. Carlo and Tanev turned the blueline into a strength.

And I'd like to point out again that the depth on the Leafs' blueline has made it so that no defenceman or pairing has to play too many minutes. Last night only McCabe played over 20 minutes (with 21 exactly). That means our group will still be in playing shape deep into the playoffs, while teams like Florida are already wearing their top guys out. Jones played 27 minutes again in game 2, which is a recipe for disaster.

I made that point as well in another thread, the minutes are spread out, how great for a coach to trust three pairs and not wear them out.

Carlo has gotta be one of the best additions we’ve ever made at the deadline.

He completed the D

I don't think anybody is really giving a shit about Fraser Minten not being a Leaf anymore.
