It’s pretty ambiguous as to whether you can accommodate Marner’s contract or Tkachuk’s and how you want to allocate those dollars. "Who would you take on your team?"

Other Marner vs. Tkachuk polls have been worded differently. This one doesn’t ask who the better player is.

Some people actually read the poll question while others don’t.

Marner is essentially redundant on Ottawa with Stutzle here and Tkachuk is also the Captain of the team and brings a skillset that no one else on the team has, which is why I voted Tkachuk.

I don't really love Brady Tkachuk as a player or leader or any of that, but i think i'd still take him over Marner, who has to be one of the biggest "empty calorie" superstars of the current generation.

This is very true. Both he and Matthews have an equally long track record of having difficulty playing and producing close to their level in the post season, but half 90% of the fans are way more forgiving of Matthews for it.

I voted Marner in this thread because it doesn' take contracts in consideration, voted Tkachuk in the one poll that did.

That said, considering how Marner has played all season and Tkachuk almost all season, I am not even sure anymore.

I'm stunned at the results of that poll. Brady is no slouch but Marner is just a far more advanced player. Assuming Brady costs within a few million of Marner at the time of their next deals, it's Marner by a lot. If Brady is making sub $10 million AAV, then it's a conversation.

Brady's current $8.2M contract lasts until 2028.

My team has an equipment guy who is scared of the letter K. Was beat up by a kangaroo and a koala as a kid. If they sign a player with a K in their name they will have another panic attack and their wife will leave them. They love the letter M though, they shared a very tender moment with a moose back in college.

So for my team it has to be Mitch Marner over Brady Tachu.

(pretty sure we are meant to compare the players here. Marner is strictly better)

Not such great news for Jake DeBrusk, Kiefer Sherwood, Filip Hronek and Thatcher Demko.

One has a game that scores goals 5v5
The other has a game that scores 3v3

I’ll pick the first one unless there is a huge uptick in dual double minors

I'm not saying one or the other. I'm partial to the player on my team, but I won't vote. However, you're seeing that there's a lot more than just points. A 220 pound wrecking ball coming in at your defense with linemates to make use of the turnovers he causes is huge, especially in a playoff format.
 
I’ll take Brady Tkachuk 100x out of 100 and I’m not a fan of either team. Marner more skilled Brady is more suited for the playoffs- would be a beast and maybe a better goalscorer too
 
I'm a a Brady Tkachuk fan but you guys using his "playoff style" of hockey when he has never played in the playoffs or him being the captain....of a team the has severely underperformed under his leadership are just wild.

Well at least he’s been much more noticeable than Marner in the 4 nations so far.
 
Brady is still rounding out his game in my opinion. He's not a complete product yet. A lot of these guys that play with physicality and energy take more time to completely develop. Marner has been and still is the more complete player, but Brady is really developing his defensive game, and is getting more intelligent with how he uses his physicality. I would take Brady over Marner because I feel like Brady has the potential to be a cornerstone player that can make an impact in every area of the game, whereas Marner might be the safer bet, but he feels limited in his potential at this point in his career (which is a highly skilled two-way player, but not really one I expect to take over games).

Marner needs the puck and a shoot first centre to be a producer. He’s always going to be great defensively. He’s going to get a gigantic contract and it might not be wise to pay a defensive specialist so much.
