It's hard to figure out what is going on, truth be told. Tkachuk is better than Marner. Stutzle is better than Matthews. Norris is better than Tavares. Sanderson is better than any Leafs D. Ullmark is better than any Leafs goalie. Zub would be the 2nd best dman over both teams. Pinto is an excellent centre. Ridley Greig is one of the best bottom 6 forwards out there.

And yet they're miles apart each season.

It's quite astonishing how far apart they are in stats now...

Marner is tied for fifth in points (1.31 PPG) whereas Tkachuk has a .79 PPG average and is outside of the top 50 in scoring. Granted, Marner does average considerably more TOI per game.

It looks like the Sens will make the playoffs this year, so we should finally be able to see playoff Tkachuk.

Isn't a lot of that TOI gap Marner playing on the PK?

Regardless, not really convinced TOI explains the difference in production. Marner in 2018-19 averaged 19:49 TOI as a 21 year old and its still a more productive season than anything Brady has done

Yeah, I hear you.

To be honest, Brady seems quite overrated to me on this site. I get that he's a power forward and that's enticing, but I don't think he belongs in the same tier as established superstar wingers like Marner.

I'm not convinced he'll be a lot better in the playoffs than MM, either (it at all). I guess we'll see.

It's quite obviously Tkachuk. And we have a trade to back this up. It took Huberdeau (very similar to Marner), Weegar (a top pairing D man) and a 1st to get Matt Tkachuk.

Are results of this poll result of people confusing Brady with Matt Tkachuk?

Can't think of other explanation.

Just a bias at the time it was made. Everyone wanted to pile on Marner due to narratives from the playoffs.

This site loves them. Everyone just piles on to some idea that gets repeated regardless of its basis in reality.

Look at what’s going on with Bedard. 3/4 of this site was convinced he sucks earlier in the year. It’s still probably half now because people get attached to their opinions, identifying themselves with it.

What I find odd is that when someone bumps a thread with opinions that were made with obviously clouded judgment, the staff here locks it. I’m sure they have their reasons, but I’m not sure what they are. Maybe people would question their recency bias a bit more if it was shown to them later.

Brady Tkatchuk is awesome and on a good contract. Marner is just a much better overall player. His next contract will be crazy, but he’s worth it.

Marner to get you too the playoffs, Tkachuk id want to get me through the playoffs.

Coin flip on what your team has and needs

This thread will be fun if Marner leaves. Watching all the usual names flip flop and claim how they knew Marner was so good will be fun. Did the same thing when Kessel left and many others

Or during the off-season when Leaf fans all throw up their hands and want to trade Marner every summer.

You realize that Marner won the previous four polls against Tkachuk?

No one ever bumps them.

I find myself having to re-post this every time Leaf Nation starts acting like victims.

People think this is some gotcha. Marner gets that shit because he is an absolute stud superstar every single season doing it all all over the ice and then forgets how to play the sport games 5, 6, 7 of every round 1. No Leaf fan EVER questions his ability. That is why he is paid so much money, it is why he gets all the love most of the time, and it is why when we need him most and he vanishes he takes so much heat.

Tkachuk has never come close to being the player Marner is, but people love to pretend he will be McDavid in the playoffs despite no one knowing what he would be. They let their either love of Tkachuk or hate of the Leafs fill in the gaps with the ideal scenario.

It’s Groundhog Day with you guys and Mitch Marner.

I should hope he’s better than Tkachuk as he’s being paid a lot more and will likely be paid much much more very soon.

The question being asked isn’t whether Marner or Tkachuk is better, but rather who you would rather have on your team, which takes into account salary and your team’s existing roster and skill sets.

His ability disappears when the games matter more, there is no compete level with the player.
Then throws a tantrum on the bench like a little kid, if he gets critisism.

yet if Marner were to leave, you'd be one of the first in the thread saying Leafs are bad for letting him go when he has 35 points in his first 20 games next year.

Depends on what you do with the cap space it frees up.

If the goal is to do really well in the regular season and rack up a lot of points, you’ve already got your man.
