Before his NTC clause kicks in on July 1st. What would it take? Peterka could be of interest to join Stutzle. Quinn is an Ottawa boy? Don't know the Sens needs.... TBH

Unlikely, but I like the value. We have a lot of skilled scorin dudes, we lack a bit of grit. I think that offer is good as is.

But.. no way am I doing this as he hunts for playoffs. If he’s traded to Buffalo now he might honestly f*** off to play in Europe or something, and I really wouldn’t blame him. It can still be done at start of offseason, yes? Would wait ‘till then and make sure he’s onboard first.

Value-wise it's pretty solid, if anything it's cumulatively a slight overpay by Buffalo but that's what it would take to pry Brady out of Ottawa.

Either way, he's not getting traded until he's in the last year of his deal (able to negotiate a contract like Matthew did). His value is at its highest for both teams there.

Staios has said as much and I agree with him. Now we've seen that Brady can take over a game at any level and drags his entire team into the fight consistently. 32 NHL GMs would overpay for that guy, he's going to dominate a 7 game series once he gets his chance, which right now is more likely to happen in OTT than BUF.

Also if Staios does ever trade him, it'll be to the West. Not the kind of guy you wanna meet in the playoffs after trading him.

Yes, Buffalo should send a top pairing defensemen signed for the next 7 years with no NTC the next five plus a top 10 pick and another player in order bring the lesser Tkachuk who's signed for the next three and has an NMC kicking in four months from now.

That's a sensible deal.

I mean, the intangibles alone Tkachuk will bring is probably worth multiple top 10 picks.
If the Sabres wanted to get Brady T then the cost would be extreme.

I don't doubt that as the time approaches and they ask him the pointed question, Tkachuk is going to tell the Senators that he's interested in moving on. He won't seriously want to talk about an extension unless it's part of a move to a destination of his choice (thus, he gets that eighth year and the Sens get a better return on the trade).

Yet that's some time away. He has three more years under contract. The Senators aren't going to want to move him yet, not now, not next season, and probably not the season after that. I think this conversation happens once he's eligible to sign an extension. Maybe around July 2027.

A lot will depend on how Ottawa does over that period of time.

If they still haven’t taken any strides, of course he’d consider looking elsewhere as any player would after a lack of team success for the first half of his career.

Not saying it wouldn't take an overpay to get Brady out of Ottawa, but I think that deal makes Buffalo worse for the remainder of his contract.

Does he have a choice?
He could ask for a trade if things don't pan out the way he wants to. And considering that is NMC kicks in this summer that means it would tie the hands of Buffalo's GM for a future trade.

If im a GM, I would ask to talk to Tkachuk's side before trading for him

So he doesn't have a choice until the summer.

This makes sense but one difference is Matt had no NMC or NTC with his previous deal with the Flames. He made the deal to get traded where he wanted and get Calgary the return it did.

Brady will have a NMC so he doesn't have to sign a deal prior to being traded in order to dictate where he gets traded.

To me, that's a huge difference in leverage.

All that being said, I'd probably want to have him for three years and get a typical UFA-to-be return at the trade deadline. As a fan, trying to maximize the return when the team's in his first playoff chase in five or so years would definitely tick me off.
