Well our 2015 first is tied to Pittsburg unless we get a top 13 pick in the 2025 draft. If that happens this trade now includes a 13th or higher 1st, and we're sending an unprotected 1st next year. Looking at the roster lineup this has us potentially being worse during the wld card chase because we have no defender to replace Fox, and then next year banking on your UFA signings to fix some of the bleeding.

You can probably put money down that you don't get that lucky and would have to over pay those UFAs here in NY, and waving goodbye to a high pick 2 years in a row.

At the draft

To NYR:
Brady Tkachuk

To OTT:
Alexis Lafreniere
Adam Fox
Brennan Othmann
2025 1st

Take out Othmann and Id want Sanderson back with Brady.

If were sending Fox as the carrot, we need Sanderson back.

Fox over Brady
Sanderson over Laf
1st as a good will piece, but maybe a lesser pick in return coming back.
Honestly putting in Sanderson makes this roughly a fair trade, but that means that the OP is a Sanderson level overpayment

yeah you're crazy

Brady is getting SUPER overrated just from the past week of games. Fox is a Norris caliber DMan. Brady is a good winger. It isn't even close.

As a rival fan, I would LOVE the Rangers to do something this stupid.
I hate to disagree but Fox has been pretty vanilla the last 1-2 yrs.
Highest IQ in the league but meh when I think about vs our squad. That's an overpayment with all those pcs but 1 for 1, I'd do it.

he has finished top 5 in Norris voting for 4 straight years, including a win. Sure maybe he isn't having the best overall season, but a true 25 minute per game #1 DMan >>>> a 70 point winger

I think the worry with Fox is going forward. He doesn't look like the Norris Fox, his skating looks bad. Injuries might prematurely age him.

If Brady ends up in New York, I guarantee you that HFBoards Rangers fans will hate the value.

But they won't be catering to the hardcore fan who spends their time on the internet talking about players' xGF%.

It'll be a trade driven by Dolan to revive the brand by bringing in an American-born star who scores, hits, fights and has a huge profile after this 4 Nations Tournament. In New York, Brady is on TNT every Sunday and is talked about like Judge and Brunson. He's not the scorer that Panarin is... but he'd have a much bigger impact in the market.

And for Ottawa, they'll justify it by bringing in a highly touted French Canadian.

Brady Tkachuk has scored 41 more points in the NHL over 85 more games played than Adam Fox. At his current NHL pace, Fox would be up more than 30 points over Tkachuk in the same games played.

One plays defense - arguably in the top 3 of his position, and almost in arguably top 4. The other is a Winger who hits people.

The overrating of Tkachuk in this thread, coupled with the massive underrating of Adam Fox, is insanely bad. I wouldn’t trade Fox for Tkachuk without something else coming back, much less adding multiple other + assets to do it.

Maybe list picks that the Rangers actually own.
Technically still own it. If you wanna feel better you can say whatever pick seattle/pitt doesnt own in either 2025 or 2026 cupcake

Fox looked generational a couple of years ago, now not so much. It's projecting forward that I think Tkachuk will be more valuable.

Like this season, where they have the same number of points despite Fox playing one less game and being a defenseman?

They are like 17 months apart in age, and physical wingers notoriously don’t age well. I’m projecting Fox is valuable well into his 30s, and likely outscores Brady for their careers baring major injuries.

Edit: And this while Fox is having a “down” year. And just so it’s clear: one of these two players has been voted the top-3/5 at his position in the entire NHL 5 years in a row. The other isn’t even a PPG winger who people think is way better because they hit and act like he’s Ovechkin or healthy Lindros as a result.

Small, slow D with bad knees don't scream longevity to me. I'm judging on more than points, more on impact on winning going forward.

Like I said, he's super smart. He puts up pts, but Ray Bourque is in the same club as Fox, sorry it's not close. BT would be far more important on a Devs team than AF.

As currently constructed with Hamilton and/or L. Hughes on the powerplay, with another top-2 selected defenseman and Casey (who I know has some polarizing takes regarding his future potential), along with a relatively small top-6 forward group that includes J. Hughes and Bratt and Meier is the only one with any real “size” (and still significantly smaller than Tkachuk), I could see the case being made for the Devils. I’d still disagree and say I’d rather have the top player at their position, regardless of team need, and that’s Fox way more than Brady, but I could at least see a case for it on the current Devils roster. But the Devils aren’t the ones trading for or away Brady or Fox in this scenario.

Defenseman who “win” with their heads more than their skates have, throughout the history of the sport, had substantially more longevity than wingers who rely near exclusively on physical play. Disagree all you want, but history is very one sided on the matter.
