Brady Tkachuk refuses a power play

I think players deny the penalties not out of class or sportsmanship but they're playing the long game. If he doesn't get hit and flinches (which is a normal human action but alas), he'll get a reputation as a diver and that reputation is not an easy one to shake. It'll give the refs a reason to not give you the benefit of the doubt in any situation in the future.

Everyone on HF is the toughest of people and never ever would they flinch. They're just sitting on the sidelines to be nice to the athletes. They don't need millions, that be greedy of them you know. They're all altruistic saints around here
This is pretty unfair. I'll have you know if you have the right kind of brainstem damage you can lose your ability to flinch.

We aren't tough guys, we are victims.

The people insisting he embellished and that flinching - and even bringing a hand up to your face - is not a normal human reaction are the perfect microcosm of what makes HF insufferable at times.

Sport is played at frickin light speed and most guys at this level have taken a stick or two to the face in their lives and know what it feels like. God forbid you flinch when a stick swings passed your face at a thousand miles per hour, or you even instinctively bring your hand up, expecting that you were about to have a tooth knocked out. No way. Impossible. In fact, Brady should probably be fined for this.
Even if they do take a stick directly to the face, they should stand there unflichingly staring at their love of the game. Anything less should get them added to the divers list and chased by moose through the town square.

My god. Tkachuk !
Take the penalty
Help your team win
was inches from from getting stitches
let the refs do their job.
It’s not a matter of getting hit by the stick. It’s the other player has to control their stick.

Did he hit his helmet? It looks like it form video, but hard to say for sure. Couple thoughts:

1. If he hit his helmet, it 100% should still be a penalty. Glad it didn't hit him/player wasn't hurt, but it's still high sticking contact that should be penalized.

2. I wouldn't have minded if it was a penalty still, even if there's no helmet contact. You should be penalizing the action, not necessarily the result. Extreme example - player 1 gets pissed off, grabs his stick with both hands and take a baseball bat style swing at another player's head....but misses. Shouldn't he still be penalized for the action, despite no contact? Same idea here - the player raised his stick high very close to a player's face.
