This was brought about by a couple of leafs fans, that wouldn’t trade Knies straight up for Brady Tkachuk.

So those leaf fans challenged me to make a poll.

Poster also said wouldn’t trade Knies straight up, for any player on the Sens.

So who does HFB take.

What the poll is about vs what you are asking are two different things:

My answer to the OP is knies as he is on my team already. He is younger, and RFA, and produces well for us. He’s also not gonna cost us 8.5M like tkachuk. I wouldn’t do the trade as it would complicate the contracts on the team for an upgrade, but not enough that it makes sense to do the trade

If I had to ignore contracts, I’d take tkachuk though, or if I was starting a new team as his near 8.5M dollar cap hit wouldn’t be hard to fit in at all

Also I’m trading knies for stutzle and sanderson without a second thought tbh.

On an 8 year deal, he might.

Maybe, but I doubt we go 8 years, it’s gonna he 3-5 years and I’m thinking anywhere from 4-6 million.

He does play with Matthews and Marner almost exclusively and is on a pp with those two + nylander and Tavares. That’s gotta be taken into account when comparing what he should get compared to a Tkachuk, Guenther, Jarvis, Slafkovsky, and some others like that

I mean Nylander was coming off two 60 points seasons as an RFA in 2018 and got what?
It was like $6.8 million aav on a 6 year term

Knies is a smidge under 60 but has more goals which is important but not back to back seasons in that amount

Salaries have gone up
Coronato and him are from the same draft
Coronato is $6.6 X 7 and he hasn’t cracked 50 points

There is no shot he has anything in the 4’s even on a bridge

Coronato played with (at best) Kadri + Huberdeau

Knies played with Matthews + Marner

You tell me who’s better as linemates…

Guenther is solidly ahead of him, Slaf is around him, Jarvis is ahead of him

If knies goes bridge, if his AAV touches 5 it’s an overpayment.

This isn't a stat and it's not measurable so it's completely my opinion but something about Brady gives the entire team a +1 and that's what makes him so special.

All you gotta do is look at knies goal on his breakaway

and killing off that penalty while beating out the icing to know how special this kid already is.

I can’t find a video of him beating that icing, but if anyone has it please post it, I’d love to see it again.

What an individual effort

Sorry it wasn’t a penalty, it was 6-5 after Ottawa pulled the goalie. It’s a few seconds into this video
