Brady out tonight according to Friedman.

Dope. Awesome he prioritized playing injured in the finals. I'm super into that from our Captain as we battle to stay in the playoff race. Feels real awesome as a fan of this team and a Canadian that he put playing hurt in the finals above making sure he does everything he can to help get us into the post season.

I get what Brady is as a player. I do. But this is unacceptable.

I don't know what you missed while watching Brady play for Ottawa for the last 7 years because he was the exact same player in that tournament. Only difference was better quality players to work with and more hyperbole from the commentators.
I guess it had to do with his 9 game pointless streak just before the tournament started. It wasn't clear to me that Brady would take it to another level if he had to, but he proved he can and will add an extra gear. Playing with the best USA players didn't hurt either.

You can't get mad at Brady for playing injured and going as hard as he could for team USA. It sucks not to have him play tonight but it was the biggest game of his career, so why not put it all on the line? We would have expected no less from McDavid or any other player from team Canada.

My dude, you do not have the cachet to tell me I or anyone else can't be mad about this.

He chose the US over the Sens, and as both a fan of the Sens, and a Canadian, I'm pretty damn sure I have every license to not be happy about this.

SUCKS

I am sure Brady was very disappointed to come off the best on best experience to have to return to his lowly NHL team in Ottawa, Canada. I hope he feels better and can embrace a little reality soon.. Don't worry about the L tonight bud.

Maybe he'll surprise us but less likely now

It would sting less if we werent already down Norris and Pinto, and had room to call someone up. Alas, here we are. Fully expecting an L against Montreal, which feels disgusting.

I underestimated how good he really is. I can not wait to see this guy unleashed in the playoffs.

There's some games that Brady will show you how impactful he can be but it's impossible for him to do that 82 games a year. Read what I wrote below

Derick Brassard on BPM radio the other day was talking about how much ENERGY it takes to play Brady's type of game, it's normal that he can't play at that level for 82 games (+ playoffs), he has to manage/dose his energy. The problem is when he doesn't play his game, he's not as nearly as effective as he can't rely on elite skill or reliable 2-way play.

Let's be honest, he wasn't very good for more than 2 months for Ottawa.

Since December 7th : 15 pts in 31 games... 7 of these points were on the PP. He has 7th best PPG on the team for these past 31 games, even grandpa Giroux, D-man Sanderson, recovering Norris and 3rd liner Pinto did better.

On top of that, Brady is still one of the worst forwards defensively on the team, no matter how people want to slice it. As the captain and 2nd highest paid player on the team, we need more.

Hopefully he was just very anxious about that tournament and will be back to help his team more that he did before the break.

If he is banged up and should sit out I have no issues just like any of the other that can't go.
If its a best on best hangover .. that's different

The problem is, he was banged up before the finals. So that's fine, but can't play 2 days later, with a full 3 day break right after?

Leaves a bad taste my friend
The worst thing is the team is in a tough spot ... so if he can go he should go... we won't learn the truth on this one

He didn’t practice before the 4Nations finals meaning he played a tournament game injured. Not a good look when your club team is on the playoff bubble. If we miss I don’t wanna hear a single complaint from the captain.

maybe not injured , maybe sort or hurt, missed practice and played.

No, I don't expect we will learn the truth.

That's it - the teams in a bad spot, we have no cap to call someone up, we are already down 2 C's and a top 4 D, and now we're likely down a top 6 forward and another too 4 D with 26 games to play, tied with Detroit 🤮, only 2 pts ahead of Boston and CBJ, 4 pts back on Tampa for 3rd.

Next game is against WPG, a likely loss, which means we're staring down the barrel of 5 game losing streak if we lose tonight.

f***

Pretty bad look on Brady, definitely put a meaningless tournament above the team that pays his salary.

Hopefully he didn’t injure his abductor…
First best on best since 2014, politically charged, players clearly playing like it meant everything to them.

It meant a lot to the players. Meaningless is very subjective here.

Meh, we wanted Makar to play injured, and we won. We also don’t care what implications it may have on Col if had re-aggravated his injury.

It was really awesome how hard the guys played, and the stakes were surprsingly so high in the final game.

Sucks for us, but we really shouldn’t be shitting on Brady when we would have demanded that all of our guys sucked it up for the final game no matter what.

Can’t have it both ways.

Why can’t he suck it up tonight too?

Hard to demand all that much from your teammates when you don’t miss a shift on Thursday and then hang them out to dry tonight.

Weak sauce. Could have put his skates on and managed his minutes.

And if he has injury that might get worse from playing, I get sitting tonight. But he shouldn’t have been on the ice in that final. He was seemingly willing to risk this playoff race for one exhibition game.

It’d be one thing if we had a spot locked down and were otherwise healthy. But we’re not.

37 year old Sidney Crosby played this afternoon. I’m sure he’s banged up too.

And from what I’ve seen, Matthews is also going tonight. He’s clearly hurt. But he’s playing because the Leafs want that top seed.

What bugs me is that we haven't seen Brady play like he did in the Four Nations tournament at any point this season.

I remember when he came into the league he battled for loose pucks like a rabid dog and would fight for every inch out there. Haven't seen that player in 2024/25. Effort level hasn't been as high as I'd have hoped.

Seeing that player again in the Four Nations was awesome, but it did make me wonder where that guy was all season.

I would be more worried if we heard everybody was healthy.

Against Toronto and Montreal, the typical Ottawa thing to do would be to lose when you're supposed to win, and win when you're supposed to lose.

Sanderson is sitting too?

Is he also somehow married into the Tkachuk family? Maybe they are a package deal.

Tkachuk - Stutzle - Marner
Giroux - Norris - Batherson
Greig - Pinto - Cousins
Reinhardt - Ostapchuk - Gregor

Like him or not, Marner is exactly what is missing on this team : high end playmaking (no offense to Stuzle and Batherson). Of course this doesn't work if Stutzle is not shooting more. Either way, Stu needs to become more of a dual threat, his over-passing limits his offensive effectiveness

And the only reason people think the return was terrible is 100% related to Huberdeau's contract. If he was making 7.0 AAV, it would look fantastic. Weegar is an excellent 2-way D-man signed long term at 6.25 AAV
Marner would be unreal.

Why can’t he suck it up tonight too?

Crosby isn't injured. If Brady was fine he would be playing.

No problem in having him sit if its minor. I hope you bring this type of energy for our consistently injured center who is often not avaliable to play

I find it strange after all we have seen over the years, that people in here actually think Brady could go tonight but isn’t cause he wants a break.

This is a guy that doesn’t miss games for us, and has played through injuries many times over the years. It’s a bit fickle from a fragile fanbase to all of a sudden turn on a guy while never misses games for us.

Perhaps he’s earned a little trust that if he isn’t playing, it’s because he isn’t good to go?

It’s entirely possible that neither Crosby, nor Matthews are injured, and that’s why they are playing.

I think that sometimes fans think that making the playoffs means more to them than the players, which I don’t think is true. If Brady could have played tonight, I believe he would have.

I am mad at the NHL.The timing of the tournament was clueless. Why play a tournament when teams are making the push for the playoffs in late February.
Clearly you play a tournament like that before the season begins from September 18 to September 30. The World Series Playoffs would have not started yet. You let them go to training camp for a few days ( or not at all) to practice with their home teams around September 15, then go off to and represent their countries in the 4 Nations Cup. None of those players would be playing in the exhibition season games until the very end of the preseason anyways. So it's not like they are needed at training camp.
Then they would report back after the 4 Nations Cup to play an exhibition game or two and then start the regular season around October 11. So the injured players would have some time to heal and if they missed time at the beginning of the season at least it's not during the playoff push.

we should be happy...we would have been playing 2 weeks without Norris and Pinto ...
