Idk what game some of you were watching, Tkachuk had a strong game,

He's playing better defensively,
He was one of the only guys with some physical push back in a game the refs were letting get out of hand with Bos was making borderline dirty hits,
He lead the team in hits, shots and was 2nd in ixG
He was very strong along the boards extending the cycle, creating opportunities for his line and tiring out the Bruins.
And it shows up in the underlying stats where his lines had a wide advantage in scoring chances and xGF

I think he’s been much more noticeable in his own end recently. He stays far lower in the defensive zone and wins battles now, instead of waiting for the outlet pass to get on a rush.

His point totals will suffer, but he’s playing a winning style of hockey now.

The goals will still come.

Emotions will always be a fine line with him, it’s a huge part of why he’s so effective. You don’t want to neuter that. He has gotten better but still needs to get smarter in picking his spots, so we’re agreed there.

A good comparable is Jamie Benn, whose age is catching up to him but always played with the same meanness of Brady but doesn’t get sucked into the chirping and related nonsense. His death stare is more effective than the chirping/mocking/games Brady plays.

Come on people. It’s not good for our captain to be standing in the penalty box chirping a non star player for 2 minutes straight. He was frequently getting into shoving matches with players who would love an offsetting 2-5 minutes to one of our best players. This isn’t a new thing, it’s been his whole career.

Pointless in 7 games straight now and a few boneheaded penalties that could have lost us points. Sure he had good net presence that aided in a goal, that’s a huge strength of his that’s hard to find.

But his mental game has always and continues to be weak. We need more from him lately. He shouldn’t stop the fiesty play as that helped offset his overall poor performance, but pick his battles after the whistle unless it’s with someone like Pasta.

I’m sure he was given a warning from the refs and didn’t listen, probably the same reason Marchand got an extra two. Reputation and the refs use the extra 2 to try and stop the nonsense. Not excusing the refs not making the right calls all game but Brady needs to control his emotions, especially when we are down a couple goals. This weakness will only be magnified in the playoffs if we sneak in.
The lack of composure is frustrating because there'll be a time when him losing control will result in a suspension. Teams like Boston or Florida already get leeway from the refs and our response has to be doing the things to win the hockey games, not taking penalties. We need Brady on the ice, not in the box because a rat like Marchand is successful at being a rat.

His lack of scoring lately is easier to stomach because he's been great in his own end. He's not cheating for offense and floating near our blueline waiting for an outlet pass. It's impressive how much he's turned around being more present in our own zone. I think the goals will come just as they will for the rest of our top scorers who've been very lacklustre offensively the last 10ish games.

Facts!
Funny how Norris scores two because he has the room on the ice and a distracted goalie because of Tkachuk's physical play. So many people judge if a player is good or bad based purely on their goals and assists.

Watching the last 30 seconds before the last goal, Brady was in a good position for a rebound or jam play but really wasn’t a big factor in that goal compared to Giroux who had great poise and vision all night.

He played a decent game last night, but my comment about his overall lacking play is during his pointless streak and untimely penalties. Last 8 games he has taken 10 more PIM than he has drawn. Not a good stat when you also aren’t putting up points.

Overall game was better last night, hoping he scores a few today and heats up.

Remember he had 11 pim against buffalo which might skew the way you're looking at his penalties drawn vs taken

Actually a good example of taking an extra 2 min roughing against Gilbert before they both got a fighting major and unsportsmanlike conduct which cancel out 7 min each.

3 goals, 6 points in last 15 games during what's been "playoff style hockey" being played.

Inexcusable.

Worst of all, 80% of plays die on his stick.
8-5-2 in their last 15 games

11 of which were road games

Currently sitting in the WC1 position

He is the captain. He has us on our way to the playoffs and playing team wide solid defensive hockey.

Historically what was deemed inexcusable was Tkachuk cheating for offense.

I guess you can't please all of the people all the time

When the team was losing but he was still putting up points, it was still his fault.

Now that the team is winning and he isn't putting up points, it's still his fault.

He'll snap out of it.

The fact that we are winning games while our offence is in a bit of a funk is a nice change from past years.

I was sitting really low yesterday at that Boston game. He's a tough damn customer in front of that net. He was a huge part of that win and never had a point

Jamie Benn had plenty of moments in his young career where he snapped & took bad penalties. Brady is playing great, people always make too much of every little thing, he knows what he is doing & who else stands up for their teammates more than Brady? Hockey is a very tough sport, he has to fight against big tough guys in front of the net every shift & he leads this team STILL in goals. The guy does everything what more does this fan base want from him? The team is winning & they are in a wild card spot & he has a lot to do with that.

He also takes all the bench minors for the coaches.

Brady is really committing to being better defensively to the point he is thinking defence first. His offensive production is suffering at the moment but it will payoff in the end. The whole team is cheating towards defence, once it becomes instinctual I think the offensive production will pick up.

This is what I have noticed as well and explains a lot. He's a +2 in last 15.. which usually is not the case with Brady (even tho it's not great indicator of defense).

He's very rarely as far as he normally has been, this might complete have his focus shifted with how to handle the puck in spaces he hasn't been accustomed to (basically non open ice/ lot of space to work with).

But seeing 80% of pucks die on his stick hurts a little. I feel he'll adjust but wouldn't be surprised if it takes until this time next year to see him put it all together.

The much improved team D is helping a lot. Even if the offense is sputtering a bit, the team can still win games. It really helps the goalies too.

When he was putting up points he was playing bad defence and the team was losing, so he’s rightfully gonna share the blame. People were harsh on a much younger Sanderson whose play has since improved substantially.

People said Giroux lost a step but he’s been making great plays last few games.

Stu went dry and still looks like playing through an injury but now has some goals and a SO winner.

Lots of the team is now playing up to or exceeding expectations which is awesome. Hopefully Brady gets there soon enough.

I think he has been good, but when he gets the points going again, that will be a huge boost.

Winning during this team scoring drought is amazing. Too much talent up front to have the PP and 5vt scoring stay so lethargic.

I know we still have a top 10 PP or whatever, but it hasn't been consistently good in a long time.
