Yeah, and despite all of that loads still wanted him gone.

And none of them had Dorion and Melnyk as their bosses.

Its all on Tkachuk. All of it. The coaching, the terrible net minding, the construction of the roster. The lack of playoffs is on him. Its his fault Dorion traded assests away for Debrincat and Chychrun. Its his fault we have terrible pro scouting and drafted the likes of Tyler Boucher. Its all Brady. Just trade him. Problem solved.

We should have traded Alfie all of those years ago, just like a good portion of the fanbase wanted. Maybe we have a cup.

You should go look at those rosters Cunneyworth, Alfredsson and Karlsson were on when they made the playoffs as players and then again as captains.

We don't need to trot out excuses like Daigle being a bust and a league worst -33 where nobody else on the team was in the bottom 50 of the League. They just made it happen. They worked hard and made the playoffs.

This would be year 2 of Alfredsson's career at age 25.
How are we doing at year 7 of Tkachuk's career at age 25?

Just trade him. Maybe we can bring in a player that sports a solid save percentage, knows how to coach, draft, and make trades.

Oh, can't forget crosschecks.

He won the Calder..
Doesn't have much to do with team success.

How many more years do we need to wait? Should we re-sign Brady Tkachuk for another 11 years and make the playoff drought an even 20 years before we consider moving on?

You're in complete denial here. The team has sucked with Brady Tkachuk as its captain. It has had much, much, much, much, much less success with him when compared to literally every other player you and everyone else has listed. Brady Tkachuk has had much less personal success than everyone he's being compared to as well.

It is an honest and fair question if we should move on from him or not at this point. The only thing that will change the narrative is the Senators coming out of 2024 with a winning record and in a position to make the playoffs... and then making the playoffs.

The bar is low here. Make the playoffs. We're not asking for a deep playoff run like with Alfredsson or Karlsson. Just make. the. playoffs.

Oh please. If Ullmark came in here from day one riding his career save% instead of playing below 0.900 we would be comfortably in a wild card position (maybe higher) and everyone's knickers wouldn't be all twisted.

Take the game the other night. Brady played well and hustled his butt off. How come more experienced pros like Giroux, Batherson and Chabot didn't even show up?

thats right he was first forward back which got him 2 assists and let Stutzle work his magic, and we won the game.

So why do you guys get mad that people want Brady to play D as that is clearly how we win?

Everyone wants him to play D.

I, and others, are taking issue with wanting to get rid of him. That and pinning the last 5+ years onto his shoulders.

I don't think the old captains are a great comparable situationly with the vastly different contract runways. Brady has 3 years left after 7 straight years of losing and that's as big of a factor as the situation on the ice.

If the team doesn't make the playoffs and we get a package that makes the team better, why shouldn't it be an option to trade him? We should trade Stutzle or Sanderson if it made the team better too.

And people pin Brady’s own actions of the last 5 years against him. He gotta change, no more excuses.

He needs to put the team before his goals and point totals. Last 5 years he has not done that.

The problem is guaranteeing that. How do you know you are getting a package that makes the team better? It's a crap shoot at best and as I mentioned, history does not bode well for the teams jettisoning star players.

It is easy to sit here and prophesize about how much better the team would be but reality is a completely different thing.

Random example, does Dylan Guenther and an unprotected first make this team better now and in the long term? That's the type of uncertain return you would get for Tkachuk. Might be good, might absolutely slam the door on us being a cup contender in the next 5 years. Roll the dice and find out, or just stick with the best player in the deal.

Oh Bullshit. Brady is not the sole reason we've missed the playoffs the last 5 years. Brady is not the reason we signed Brown, Gudbrasnon, etc.... Brady is not the reason Korpisalo needed eye surgery.

Brady was not responsible for the returns on Karlsson, Duchene, Stone, Turris, Zbad, etc...

Maybe if those moves were handled properly we'd have seen the playoffs by now.

Is it somehow Brady's fault we're going to have to forfeit a 1st round pick aslo?

im not saying he's been the sole reason.

i'm saying he needs to play more of a team game.

when your top players are getting outscored expecting playoffs is unrealistic. and brady could do A LOT more to help his teammates.

This is a completely valid point regarding the uncertainty of whether what we'd get would take us to the next level.

I'm fine to keep Tkachuk and try to give Green a chance to help him develop into the leader we need, but I'm also fine to move on because as much Tkachuk is a unicorn, high scoring, hitting, and penalty taking winger who is really bad in his own zone isn't the mould of player I think can help us have long term success. Especially when that type of player was made captain in less than ideal circumstances and now you're kinda stuck with him as C of a team that was poorly constructed/not set up to help him succeed as a leader.

In a hypothetical trade, I'd want the right fit of guys coming back (cost controlled, similar output, etc. that other GMs are willing to give up because they think Tkachuk can push them over the edge). Guenther wouldn't be that for me but someone like Keller, Lafreniere, etc., along with something like an unprotected first which we could definitely considering how asset depleted we are.

I'm not actively pushing for it, and am cheering for him every night as long as he's a Sen, but if management decides they want their core to look another way, I'm open to it.

The problem is that it’s obvious you are choosing to look at Brady through the lens of all the things he’s not, and you can pick apart just about any player if you do that, short of a handful of guys like McDavid, Barkov, MacKinnon - the elite of the elite.

Things are rarely as black and white as you’re painting them to be. Everyone around the team says Brady is first to the rink, first on the ice at practice. He’s one of our most consistent players night in and night out. He can play with anyone and looks good doing it. He’s the most physical player in the league. All of those things = good leadership.

I don’t think anyone enjoys watching Brady miss a back check or cheat for offense. Oversimplifying it to that = no effort and bad leadership is where people take issue. The game is fast and so much is instinctual and built on habits - if he has played one way all his life the evolution isn’t going to happen overnight. It’s easy to say from your couch at home that he shouldn’t have cheated for a goal, but in the moment it’s a split second decision. You are choosing to equate it to a complete lack of effort but there is a need for maturity and growth that is going to take time for it to really resolve itself. Most of the effort to switch the way they play started with Jacques, which was a year ago, 500 NHL games experience or not.
This is a really well thought out and presented post, but the four or five posters that are in desperate need of understanding this information, are the same group that will never absorb it.

Your problem is that you’re trying to reach the irrational with rationale. It won’t happen unfortunately, but I enjoyed your post for what it’s worth. :)

He will either stay here and lead us to greatness, or "what team was Brady Tkachuk drafted to" will become a trivia question that most fans can't answer, because like with Mark Stone, when they close their eyes they will only see Brady in a Golden Knights* jersey.

*Insert low-tax competitive team in non-traditional market here.

He's probably gone, but I don't think it's the first choice of management to trade him. Otherwise, they wouldn't have pushed so hard to try to retool on the fly last offseason. They NEED to turn it around and make the playoffs this season if they want him to stay. Because once the NMC activates, even if he stays for another year before asking out, they are getting whatever Vegas, or Florida chooses to offer.
