Skjei's contract isn't so great. Not sure how we would fit him in with Slavin, Pesce and hopefully Hamilton long term. Gardiner would almost certainly need to be moved and I doubt the Rangers want him.

Canes later 1st for Skjei could be a good deal. I like him a lot, reminds me of Slavin/Pesce plus he has offensive upside. Really good at getting shots through. Big, smart, and a great skater.
Hamilton and Pesce are out maybe for the rest of the year so he'd be a good addition for this year but I'm not how we would make it work long term since Skjei has several years left on his deal. I'm guessing Hamilton or Pesce would be trade bait. Doubt anyone would be interested in Gardiner without retention and/or paying someone to take him.

Ideally the Canes could get a Gardiner + 1st for Skjei deal done. Two birds with one stone.

Skej is better than Hanifin and Fluery . No issue sending a 1st if we keep drafting dmen like that. We have 2 1sts and good prospects, send it.

Although without moving salary out I don't see how that works. Still am more worried about our goalies. One ahl callup is workable...relying on 2 is a big issue

Skjei is a desperation move. Not what we need. I hope this is all smoke and mirrors.
I don't think it is a desperation move. Canes were looking for a LHD BEFORE Hamilton got injured. Skjei fits what they are looking for and he's 25 and locked up to a reasonable deal for 4 more years. To me, a desperation deal would be trading for a rental defenseman.

Brady Skjei, D-Man-L Shot, 25 years old, 6' 3" 210 lbs.
SCOUTING REPORT

Is a tremendous skater. With NHL size (6-3, 211 pounds), he can play a shutdown role quite effectively. Is also capable of logging a lot of ice time. Possesses some offensive upside, as well. Must get stronger and learn to use his big frame far more to his advantage in order to keep opponents honest. Is not a natural power-play quarterback. Is a bit raw in terms of his overall skills.
