U are wrong. Matthew's is not full engaged. Use Zack Hyman as the gauge for engagement. Matthew's looking effortless on some high skill plays is one thing, but its clearly obvious when Matthews is not skating hard and that happens all too often. Leaf fans have let Matthew's off the hook for his compete for the last 9 years, I hope Berube calls Matthews out as often as he should, that will help keep that atmosphere around that team on a good vibe. Matthews when he is fully engaged is dominating, the other version of Matthews he looks disinterested or hungover.

I’m not, but thanks for your input.
Most of this is opinion, the part about being let off the hook for 9 years though is utter bs.

Treliving could not get Marner signed before July 1st. Marner can walk for free anywhere he chooses. Marner has emerged as a top 5 players in the league. Should have traded him but didn't. You don't let a top 5 player walk for nothing. Tre improved the D a little and goaltending a little. Berube is better than Keefe, but to me losing Marner for nothing is unforgivable.

What's that have to do with Matthews?

I'll just say Matthews in the playoffs last year before he got hurt. That's the gear Matthews is lacking right now. It's the best I've seen him play all around. Saying that it's early. Slow start perhaps.
I've been saying it for 2-3 years now... when it comes to Matthews (and the core in general) it's Cup or bust. It doesn't matter if Matthews scores 35, 40, or 65 goals in the regular season... he needs to come up huge when it matters most in the playoffs.
