Brad Treliving is doing a great job.

With no assets to trade and not much in FA how do they make significant changes?

You use the nearly 30 million in cap space you havd to your advantage.

For example Dallas has 5 players to sign and less then 6 million to do it, Mason Marchment is a player I'd be looking at.

They need another big LW that can get to the inside of the ice and score goals.

Perfect guy to target.

Do you not understand that they make more money if the team wins?
Yes I do. I also understand that they probably will only retool instead of rebuild when we should be rebuilding because they like to make money and will be ok with just making the playoffs. See the difference? I am not saying it will happen in the next few years...but what we did in 2015 will be much more difficult to do with Rogers than with Bell in the mix. Just look at the Jays...scary.

They got blown the f*** out 6-1 in games 5 and 7. Games were nowhere near close

We scored 4 goals in last 4 games with the offense dying under berube just as it did with Keefe.

The team wasn't close to beating FLO. They choked game 3 and then just gave up and got manhandled the rest of the series.

CAR can suck but we blew it bad and got blown out of the playoffs.

Next year who knows how the rest of the EC improves. We wont be the clear cut 2nd best team in the east next year.

Healthy Devils team with possibly Quinn Hughes added. , Rangers looking to bounce back to contenders and being aggresive in the summer, as lower playoff teams looking to take steps (MTL, OTT + the fringe playoff teams in CBJ, DET, BUF)

This core/team had their best chance at winning a cup this year. The blew it and got embarrassed out of the playoffs.

The Panthers team is looking to be a dynasty. They will contend for another 3-5 years
I like Berube’s style of play, employing 34, 16, 88 in that system not so much…….

The July 2026 UFA crop potentially could be very strong and I have no confidence Bubbles will be in a position to sign any available stars because he’ll screw the future cap this offseason.
Bubbles is a way better handle than Pizza Boy, may I use it going forward?

I wouldn't blow this team up, look at these playoffs, Florida eliinated Tampa in 5, and look to sweep Carolina, the Leafs are the only team so far that have given Florida any trouble and it took them 7 games to eliminate the Leafs. Think about it if the Leafs won the ot game they'd have won round two and likely gone to the finals.

He would be yes.

Another guy I would target, especially if Rielly is moved is Conor Garland.

To be clear I don't want to move Rielly at all I like the defense a LOT

And I acknowledge that Garland does not have the size that I generally want in the forward, however I'm a big Conor Garland guy, have been for years.

IF they are going to move Rielly that's the guy I'd want plus you clear 2.5 million in space so you can go shopping for a 3C.

Knies Matthews Garland/Domi

Marchment Tavares Nylander

McMann Nelson? Garland/Domi

Looks pretty good to me and I don't think it's unrealistic especially since I think at least 1 of Jarnkrok or Kampf are gone.

And I'm sure it's worse either, neither guy is as good as Marner but the forward group is certainly deeper.

Only question is how do you replace Rielly?

Maybe you go cheaper on the 3C and invest in Ekblad.

I could also see them after Krider instead of Marchment but I'm leary of him because he's 35 or 36.

Clearly you are obtuse . They accepted the penalty to Gilmour for bleeding on the ice when Gretzky carved his face open.
What exactly did you expect them to do, attack the ref? Leave the ice in protest?

A guy whose playoff scoring drops from .63 to .33 would fit right in here.

Because Bob wasn't playing like Bob for the first two games. Had he been, it is doubtful the series would have gone the distance.

Unless the Leafs make significant changes I don’t see them exceeding their normal 100-105 point total and it’s likely they take a step back. Ottawa should be pushing 100 points this season and have a better playoff showing if they can get another easy round 1 matchup.
There's not really a reason to expect Ottawa to get much better. They aren't a young team. It's not Toronto in 2016-17 in year 1 after drafting the last piece of their rebuild. It's year 5 after drafting Stutzle now. (Sanderson aside, of course)

The Leafs have been the only team to give Florida any competition going 7 games. Tampa was beaten in 5 and Carolina looks to swept tonight. This shows that the Leafs were good enough to be considered the top 3 or 4 in the league so why not make a few adjustments than blowing up the team and go through many years of missing the playoffs.

I guess we could run the same failing playoff team for the 10th year

Save 5-6m on JT and 11m on Marner and you have the cap to get a playoff player or two or three that could tip it.

The team isn't getting blown up, Marner is probably leaving but there is nothing they can do about that and that's not blowing it up.

We could have returned the favour since elbowing goalies in the head clearly isn't a penalty. We had nothing to lose in some games. I didn't think of attacking the ref but that isn't a bad idea.

I think that they should do some adjustments including trading one or more of the core four, but blowing up the team would be a mistake because going 7 games with Florida while they've killed everyone else in the playoffs shows that the Leafs are one of the top 4 or 5 in the league.

Trading one of the core in addition to losing two to FA?

Best retool would be let Marner walk, trade Reilly and resign JT on a discount. Dollars saved on those 3 deals alone will allow you to bring in 3 above average pieces if they choose to do so. Add the trading of Kampf and Jarnkrok there is more room.

Definitely will have the ability to change the team if they choose to. Or you wait it out and see what McDavid does. If he doesnt resign in Edmonton and wants to test free agency the following season, do you tinker on the team this season to go all out next off season where free agents are a plenty?

McDavid
Eichel
Panarin
Kaprizov
Jason Robertson
Makar
Connor
Necas
Zegras
Kempe
Garland
Tuch
R. Andersson
Marchment
