That's a ridiculous take. You actually think that a career hockey guy would pass on the opportunity to become GM of the Leafs because he was told Marner couldn't be moved? He has still been able to make a lot of moves over the past couple years to try to get the team over the hump, and importantly, did push Marner to waive his no trade for Rantanen. I'm not sure Tre is top 10 in league GMs, but this particular mess sits squarely on Shanahan.First of all, "they" means Marner because the rest had NMC's, correct?
Second - did CJ say what Tre thought himself? If he had no desire to move Marner anyway then it's on him. And if he did want to move Marner but was told he couldn't, then he didn't have to take the job but he did anyway so again, it's on him.
