Brad Treliving is doing a great job.

The fact is, people hate Dubas and downplay any success this team had under him.

The core couldn't bail him out when they had shaky goaltending.

The Leafs had some pretty good teams in the past couple years but failed. It happens.

Can Tre ride great goaltending deeper? 100%. We see it almost every year.

Yourself, Dekes and a few others have some good points. Good goaltending has saved them a bit this year. But owning the puck and outplaying other teams was getting them nowhere.

If Stolarz can carry the team into the third round, or if Matthews and Marner have a great playoffs then I don't care that they tend to be on the wrong side of the shot counter. Price, Vasi and Bob stonewalled them. Maybe it's their turn

Nobody downplays the success this team had under Dubas because that's impossible because they didn't have any.

I'm not saying he did nothing good, the Muzzin and McCabe trades were great.

Matthew Knies was a steal at 57th overall.

John Tavares has been a fantastic signing.

Brodie was good for the first 3 1/2 years.

But there was ZERO success you can't downplays what doesn't exist.

That's like trying to downplay the wealth of the tooth fairy.

You can't do that because the tooth fairy isn't real.

And neither is the team success under Dubas.

There was zero playoff success.

They did manage to make the playoffs every year, and hold the record for most wins and points in a season.

When does it start to become success?

Winning 2 rounds? More?

Wait a minute - - what about getting some respect in the handshake line?

Bozo The Keefe was so proud when he talked about that in the season ending press conference.

That is still the single most pathetic thing I have ever heard a coach say.

Not hockey coach either.

Hockey, baseball, basketball, football, soccer, pick a sport.

And people wonder why I cowardly Keefe and say he's not a man.

THAT is exhibit A

Not sure how closely you follow junior hockey but I can absolutely assure you that there’s ZERO comparison between being a GM in the OHL and being a GM in the NHL.
Remember when everyone was praising Dubas when we won the Calder under his AHL watch. Yep, no contracts, no trades, no drafts, what a triumph! Man ran great bobblehead nights though.

Quick recap after two playoff games:

Toronto with Berube has scored NINE (9) goals.
New Jersey with Bozo The Keefe has scored TWO (2) goals.

As I’ve explained numerous times, an incompetent coach - - along with a hopeless GM - - were the two biggest issues holding the Leafs back for half a decade.

I think you are being a bit unfair

New Jersey went into this series missing J Hughes, Hamilton, and Siegenthaler and lost L Hughes, Glass and Dillon in game 1.

2018-18 Tampa vs Columbus they had Kuch suspended and a pretty banged up Hedman and scored 8 goals in a 4 game sweep (3 in one game).

My point is he's been severly handcuffed, and before you get on me for defending Keefe I also think he was not a good coach, but pointing to this as some sort of indicator of keefe being a bad coach is a reach

He also won game 2, 5 and game 6 against boston without nylander or matthews. There's more to the team underperforming than JUST the coach, no matter how big of a role he played

This team has depth we didn't have under the previous management.

Yes Matthews, Marner, Nylander, and Tavares are all doing their job they all have 3 points or more and Rielly has at least 2 as well, the core has been GREAT.

But I want to focus on the depth because the 4th line opened the scoring in game 1.

The 3rd line ended it in game 2.

2 games, 2 major contributions from the bottom 6.

2 games 2 major contributions from the bottom pair.

A goal by OEL.

And an OT assist by Benoit.

Said it before the series started, Yes the big boys are going to have to carry the bulk of the load and they have.

But it can't be JUST them.

You need contributions from other people and they have gotten those.

In fact I said the depth had to win you 1 game per series.

I'd argue it did last night.

D is better but they’re still relying too much on goaltending. Lots of the old bad habits came out last night, particularly the lack of compete trying to generate scoring chances, and that’s concerning.

I get the sense that the adoration is because people see him as a reflection of themselves.

No need to have played hockey, as long as you can spout off about obscure statistics you can be handed a GM job in the OHL in your early 20’s just like Dumbass.

Just keep pontificating those analytics and parlay it into GM of the NHL’s flagship franchise in your early 30’s.

If Dumbass could do it with smoke-and-mirror statistics, there’s hope for any gimp just like him without any tangible knowledge of hockey as long as they study spreadsheets really hard.
indeed, and hometown hockey heroes who understand what it takes to win when the chips are down know how to spot a fraud like this

Can we please have a thread that is dedicated to Treliving, and the job he is doing please?

The Dubasites seem unable to cope and have no purpose here other than to derail it.

This management team has no vision.

Good enough is good enough.

Shanahan needed to go years ago. Absolute insanity that he tripped over himself kissing Matthews and Marner's asses.

Brings in an unqualified GM, who brought in an unqualified coach, who got absolutely schooled by a pair of RFA's who are both incredibly soft.

Very poor and stale from top down and now not nearly well positioned to improve, with no 1st round picks for the next 3 years.

Moving on from Marner has to happen, and we are losing him for nothing but cap space. Colorado got Necas out of Rantanan, but what do those guys know about winning?

We just give up 1st, 2nd, and 3rd rounders to chase meat like Schenn, Laughton, Boosh, and Edmundson. We hang onto meat like Reaves after we traded Connor Dewar for nothing. Turns out, when Dewar in the lineup, he can put up points. God knows we don't need any of that on our 4th line.......

It's the equivalent of saying "we played a hard fought series and lost". How dumb are people that they don't understand this?

How much are you placing on Toronto beating Florida next round?

2 of 9 goals have come from the depth, not good.

The players everyone wanted broken up have been carrying this team (and Stolarz).

Do you have a point here or are you just trolling?

You must have a point if you are going to bother digging through posts made a month ago on Trade Deadline day, where I am expressing my frustration with Shanahan and his leadership.

……… unless you have no point and like a typical Dubasite you have nothing relevant or of value to contribute here.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m flattered that my words are so deep and meaningful to you, and they resonate and linger in your mind for months on end, apparently. :)

Carry on.

I would say stolarz has been carrying us and we’ve been opportunistic for the most part stalemates aren’t good enough from our top guys our depth isnt good enough Ottawa has the clear bottom 6 advantage big boys need to actually start carrying us

If you get 1 depth goal you are in good shape.

And let's be clear here my stance with this core has ALWAYS been get this team a REAL coach and let's see what thy can do.

So far they have won a division, under a full season.

And they are up 2-0 in a series

The leafs could still end up losing this series but I feel Brad is going down the right path on how to win. It’s the playoffs and not every game will be pretty. You just need to be the first to win four. Anyone trying to discredit Brad for transforming the defense needs to cut it out. The Leafs D is more playoff ready defense than the past. The system and buy in from the D is a huge reason for success. I’ll worry about the age of the defense in the off season because right now they’re playing good.

Notice how cameras haven’t shown one shot of Treliving during the game?

I remember tons of shots of Dubas.
